“My dad is trying to retire me for a while now,” he tells GQ’s Daniel Riley for our February issue, “No honestly! But he hasn’t been pushy. He respects my decision to keep going. And of course, he understands why I want to keep going, but he’s like: ‘What else do you want to do?”

Novak Djokovic on retirement and his future pursuits in tennis
The 24-time Grand Slam champion got up close and personal with David Riley of GQ magazine. He spoke about his future in tennis and what’s next for him—Novak Djokovic has worn an Olympic gold medal, 10 Australian Opens, 3 French Opens, 7 Wimbledons, and 4 US Opens.
He boasts the highest Grand Slam titles for any man in tennis. He stated that media and fans have begun to assume that his retirement from the game was imminent.
Novak Djokovic further revealed that his father had spoken to him about retirement from the game of tennis. He stated that his father hasn't been pushy about him quitting the game and respects his decision to keep going.
In the interview with GQ he said,
"My dad is trying to retire me for a while now. No, honestly! But he hasn’t been pushy. He respects my decision to keep going. And of course he understands why I want to keep going, but he’s like: What else do you want to do?"
The 37-year-old sportsman revealed that he wasn’t thinking about retirement yet, and would continue to play. He also plans to reduce the number of tournaments he’ll play in and focus on a select few.
He also described what he hopes to achieve as an accomplished tennis player, from improved players’ rights to entrepreneurial pursuits.
Novak Djokovic also spoke on his relationship with the other GOATS of the game, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, and how their sports rivalries affected his career.
He said, in the same interview with GQ,
"They’ve been an integral part of my success and the history that I made of the sport. The rivalries with them have toughened me up like nothing has done throughout my career."
