UK’s one of the leading supermarket chains, Morrisons, faced a significant technical failure this week. A glitch disrupted its More Card loyalty program and click-and-collect services. It left the brand's customers irritated as their Christmas orders got canceled, and they missed discounts.

Many customers took to Social Media to voice their frustrations. One said:

"Don't bother shopping @Morrisons. Their more card is down so no vouchers or offers working. No announcements made! Done nearly a £300 shop and tried to remember all the big offers to give back but forgot a few. Not good enough!"

Another added:

"I booked a click-and-collect slot weeks ago. Now it’s cancelled, and I don’t know if my turkey will arrive."

Morrisons' More Card Discounts Fail

Morrisons was founded in 1899 in Bradford. It grew from a small market stall into one of the United Kingdom’s largest supermarket chains. The More Card loyalty program is one of the most-used features of the chain. It offers customers discounts and rewards on purchases.

However, this system crashed just days before Christmas. It is one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. Shoppers who came to stores relying on the loyalty program for holiday discounts found that their More Card benefits were not usable at checkouts. Addressing this issue, a customer said:

"@Morrisons, I spent over £300 today and because of the issue with the more card, I didn’t get my friends of a colleague discount or any of the in store more offers. What is going to happen to rectify this?"

The More Card program failure was disappointing for customers who had planned their festive shopping by centering its deals. The brand had promised discounts on popular holiday items like turkeys, vegetables, champagne, and more. On the contrary, instead of getting discounts, customers were charged extra, they complained.

For instance, a promotional deal that was offering carrots for 10p. However, shoppers saw that they were charged 69p for the same due to a technical error.

Responding to the problem, Morrisons offered a 10% discount on entire purchases for affected customers, including those who were unable to access their More Card benefits. Store employees were officially instructed to manually process available rewards for shoppers with unredeemed points.

The brand also came to its official X (formerly, Twitter) handle to announce the same. They captioned:

"More Card customers to get 10% discount on whole shop until we close on Christmas Eve. Today we are experiencing some system issues which are affecting our More Card customers. For More Card customers who have Morrisons Fivers to redeem, these will be done manually in store by colleagues."

Shedding light on their measures, the company added:

"All our stores have now made the top 100 More Card prices the regular price - including the 10p veg deal, turkeys, spirits and champagne. And in addition we will give More Card customers an extra 10% off their entire shop as an apology."

The technical glitch also harmed Morrisons’ click-and-collect and home delivery services. Customers reported receiving last-minute emails canceling orders. Some received messages to wait for further confirmation before collecting their purchases.

As per the brand's spokesperson, they are undertaking all necessary steps to resolve the ongoing glitch. On the other hand, customers are hoping for better shopping experiences.
