McDonald's launches Squid Game meal in Australia: Items list, where to get, and more details explored

McDonald’s Australia has launched a Squid Game meal as part of its partnership with Netflix, celebrating the release of Squid Game Season 2 on December 26, 2024.

Customers can grab the Squid Game meal only at the participating locations in Australia from December 11, 2024, to January 7, 2025. The Squid Game meal comprises ten pieces of Chicken McNuggets, a choice of medium or large fries, a beverage, a Korean BBQ dipping sauce, and a Dalgona Candy. However, the meal is only available for a limited time.

The limited-edition meal is served in attractive packaging. It features notable characters, including Younghee – the creepy doll from the popular Netflix series. The campaign is branded as “Dare to Play” and invites customers to a daring yet immersive experience with their friends and family.


Squid Game Meal’s big announcement on McDonald's Instagram

The Instagram handle of McDonald’s Australia shared the news on its page through an intriguing clip. In the video, the red-suited henchmen holding the ‘Squid Game Meal’ distributed game cards to random people, each with a number written on them. A background voice runs, saying, “You are officially invited to McDonald’s to play Squid Game Dalgona Candy Challenge.” The caption on the post read:

“POV: you get handed a card and call the number 👀 Macca’s Squid Game Meal, available THIS WEDNESDAY 11.12.24.”

Fans were excited to see the news and even jokingly questioned the possibility of dying if they entered the gaming challenge.


What is Macca’s Dalgona Candy Challenge?

Macca, a colloquial term for McDonald’s in Australia, has introduced a Dalgona Candy Challenge for its customers.

The Squid Game meal comes with a Dalgona Candy. As seen in the Squid Game show, the treat is a Korean candy in different shapes. This time, a never-before-seen Golden Arches ‘M’ shape is also included, along with other shapes like circles, triangles, and stars.

According to the challenge, the player has to carve the shapes by biting, licking, and snapping the pieces of the candy. In case they pass the challenge, they will get a chance to win an exclusive McDonald's Squid Game Green Player Tracksuit. And those who could master the Macca’s ‘M’ shape will win $100k!!

Squid Game has become a global phenomenon since it was first released on Netflix on September 17, 2021. It has become Netflix’s most-watched show with over 330 million viewers and more than 2.8 billion hours viewed globally. Reportedly, the demand for the show is 12.8 times higher in Australia than any regular TV series.
