The JJJJound x Adidas collaboration has been a loved one for those who like the minimalist designs on their sneakers. Speculation has it that the shoes are priced at $250, and scheduled for release on February 1, 2025.
JJJJound is a Montreal-based design studio founded by Justin Saunders. The studio has built a reputation for taking iconic designs and reimagining them. Its collaboration with Adidas began in recent years. They have collaboratively produced much-acclaimed pieces like the Sambas and Gazelles.
Following the success of the “Made in Germany” Sambas in 2024, the collaboration now expands to the basketball sneakers Adidas Superstar 90 under the “Made in Japan” label.
Below is what JJJJound had to mention regarding their last collaboration with adidas:
"Adidas Originals and JJJJound kick off their new collaborative partnership with two takes on the iconic Samba, crafted in the Adidas’s Scheinfeld factory in Germany. Inspired by shared values, the inaugural collection sees the design studio bring its inimitable lens to one of the Trefoil’s most recognizable silhouettes."
It added,
"More than meets the eye, however, each pair is dutifully crafted with the highest levels of attention to detail and elevated with carefully considered touches including co-branded sock liners and custom vintage hang tags."
First Look at the JJJJound x Adidas Superstar “Made in Japan”
The JJJJound x Adidas Superstar 90 “Made in Japan” comes with a modern, take on the loved silhouette. These sneakers are reportedly sported with an all-black colorway. As reports suggest, the sneakers feature a Japanese leather upper in black. The Three Stripes and heel tabs are clad in white that contrast the black base.
A tan leather interior lining provides a subtle contrast to the exterior. Traditional Trefoil logos on the tongue and heel tab are reportedly omitted, which could be done to reinforce the minimalist aesthetic. Instead, gold JJJJound lettering replaces the Superstar text along the three-stripe overlays.
JJJJound’s approach to the Superstar 90 highlights that instead of loud, and flashy elements, the design forwards to remove excess branding. However, it keeps the loved features of the original silhouette. The absence of the Trefoil logo and the understated use of gold lettering affirms that.
By focusing on quality materials and minimalist design choices, JJJJound tries to prove that less is often more.
Adidas’s Japanese-made sneakers are known among fans for their superior construction. This upcoming release is not expected to be an exception. The “Made in Japan” label is a nod to that.
