J Balvin x Casio G-Shock collaborative collection: Everything we know so far

Colombian singer J Balvin and electronics company Casio have tuned in for their latest collaboration. This partnership will launch a limited G-Shock DWE5600 watch collection called “Time Matters.” A release date for the collection has not been announced yet.

The collection includes a black bezel and band that can be swapped with a translucent matte yellow set. The watch face features the text "Ma’ G" on top, referencing J Balvin’s single from JOSE and lightning motifs inspired by his 2016 album Energía.

This marks the first-ever collaboration for a product between the singer and the company. Interestingly, J Balvin is reportedly a die-hard fan of Casio.

Besides that, other unique details include Spanish text in J Balvin’s handwriting for button labels and his signature smiley logo engraved on the case back. It will be the first G-Shock watch to feature Spanish text with the singer’s handwriting.

The DWE-5600 series features a lightweight, durable carbon core guard case made from fiber-reinforced resin. Regarding the interchangeable bezels and bands, they can be changed quickly using an included tool.

The watch reportedly offers standard G-Shock features like shock resistance, water resistance up to 200 meters, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, a multi-function alarm, and an EL backlight for low-light visibility. Expected to cost $230, this model is currently listed in Indonesia but is anticipated to launch globally.

This watch from Casio G-Shock has a special significance for the brand as it carries the legacy of the original model. Moreover, the iconic square design of the DW series symbolizes the brand's origin and innovation.

Made from flexible and durable urethane resin, it represents the core identity of G-Shock while appealing to both tradition and practicality. The DW series has been a favorite for its enduring design and functionality, making it a great gift or a personal accessory.

J Balvin performed at Casio’s 40th-anniversary event in 2023

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Casio G-Shock hosted a major event in New York City on November 9, 2023, featuring a press conference and a concert by J Balvin. The gathering included media, influencers, and industry leaders, highlighting the brand's innovation and cultural impact.

Key figures like G-Shock creator Kikuo Ibe reflected on the brand's history and commitment to toughness and style. Speakers included G-Shock executives and notable guests such as Olympian Louie Vito and author Ariel Adams.

YouTuber Doody’s Dagger shared a review of G-Shock DW5600 in 2024. He found the watch tough and water-resistant for up to 200 meters. Given the nature of his job, he said the watch barely got damaged as:

“I have banged this thing up like a lot, you know, like I said reaching my hand in small spaces, smacking it on the side of things walking by. I literally see, I mean it looks worn but there’s no cracks or chips taken out of anything. It really looks fine.”
