The Montreal-based design studio, JJJJound has teased yet another sneaker made in collaboration with New Balance. JJJJound is a frequent collaborator with New Balance and is responsible for several of the brand's popular silhouettes.
The duo recently previewed MADE IN USA versions of the 993 sneaker design, and for their latest project, they are introducing the black colorway of the 2002R GORE-TEX.
Two colorways of the design, pine, and charcoal, were released in February 2024. JJJJound posted visuals of the black sneakers on their Instagram page on November 7, 2024, which elicited mixed reactions from sneakerheads and Netizens. One replied:
"Mmm I don't know about these hchief"
A section of the comment section seemed to share the same sentiments as they described the design and color as "basic" and "regular."
Others used the opportunity to lobby for more designs of the 993 sneakers.
Some sneakerheads expressed excitement for the drop and described the shoes as instant classics and sleek.
Other fans were quick to note the practical qualities of the shoes and referred to them as winter essentials.
The New Balance x JJJJound 2002R GORE-TEX sneakers in black will be released in the fall/winter of 2024
Neither JJJJound nor New Balance have given a specific launch date for the black 200R Gore-Tex sneakers. From the caption on the former's post on Instagram, it would seem that the minimalist footwear will drop anytime this December.
In February 2024, the collaboration released two colorways of the 200R GORE-TEX in pine and charcoal. The charcoal variant of the 2002R featured a black and grey color scheme, with grey dominating the midfoot, toe cap, and other overlays while the black appeared on the mesh placed on the tongues, toe boxes, and collars.
The colorways were sold for $190 upon their release. The brand’s latest brainchild, departs from the mesh and suede design of the February release, choosing instead, a leather upper with GORE-TEX material for weather resistance.
It is dressed in all-black with a toggle-like lacing system to ensure maximum fitting. The monochromatic colorway is accented by hints of color on the 2002R tag and the GORE-TEX branding.
The dad shoe silhouette is also complemented by a chunky ABZORB midsole, which delivers cushioning and support with hints of blue matching the branding on the upper.
The versatile black color makes the shoes pairable with different outfit choices, while the GORE-TEX lining promises dry and comfortable feet during harsh weather.
According to Sneaker Bar Detroit, the JJJJound x New Balance 2002R GORE-TEX sneakers will be available sometime before the end of the year on the JJJJound website exclusively. Stay tuned for more updates.
