On December 4, BBC published an interview featuring their interaction with Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. During the interaction, Anna commented on her comparisons to Miranda Priestly's character in the film The Devil Wears Prada.
Anna's resemblance to the movie character can be ascribed to her distinct bobbed hair, comparable fashion choices, and glasses.
When the interviewer touched upon the topic of her similarities with The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda Priestly. Anna said that she doesn’t think about it. She went on to say that she’s just interested in the creative aspect of her job.
"I don't really think about it," she said. "What I'm really interested in is the creative aspect of my job,” Anna further added.
For those unaware, the novel The Devil Wears Prada was written by Anna Wintour’s former assistant, Lauren Weisberger.
Therefore, on December 1, while speaking to BBC at the musical adaptation of the movie organized in London, Anna opened up about her views on her likeness to Miranda Priestly, which was originally played by Meryl Streep in the movie of the same name.
"for the audience and for the people I work with to decide if there are any similarities between me and Miranda Priestly,” Anna stated.
Earlier, in 2010, the British publication The Daily Mail interviewed the writer of Devil Wears Prada. Lauren commented on Miranda’s character and how it was associated with her former boss Anna Wintour.
Lauren asserted that while it was not a precise representation of Wintour, she also declined to exclude the possibility that Miranda's character was influenced by Wintour.
“wasn’t a one-to-one portrayal of Wintour. But of course my time at Vogue informed the book; there’s no denying that,” Lauren stated.
David Frankel directed The Devil Wears Prada, a 2006 American comedy-drama film. The film has its roots in Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel.
The cast includes Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt. It portrays a potential journalist who accepts a position at a fashion magazine but discovers herself under the control of her domineering editor.
