The havoc created by the Los Angeles wildfire has affected everyone, including the restaurant community. Although hospitality workers came forward to help the victims, many of them lost everything they had. Many renowned restaurants burned to ashes, leaving behind years of legacy and fame.
If you are wondering how to help these people, a few organizations have stepped up during the crisis. One such organization is “Restaurants Care,” which started its philanthropic journey in 2017. Since then, it has supported food and beverage workers and invested in independent restaurants.
In light of the Los Angeles fire incident, this organization has decided to help the restaurant community affected by the California fires. The message on Restaurants Care’s official website reads:
“The recent California fires have left many in our community devastated. Restaurants Care is helping food and beverage workers impacted by the fires with grants. Apply for help or donate to support someone in need. Since 2017, Restaurants Care has served hope and stability to over 2,300 workers and 1,600 independent restaurants. We are California’s restaurant nonprofit.”
People can donate by visiting the official website restaurantscare.org. The amount can range between $25 and $1000. Donating $25, one can assist by providing utilities, $50 for transportation, $100 for groceries, $500 for part-time childcare, and $1000 for housing. Donors can specify the amount and add details like name, address, city, and payment details.
Donors can also help the restaurant community in Los Angeles through the “Welcome to Chinatown” organization
Another way to help the restaurant community is to donate to "Welcome to Chinatown," a non-profit organization catering to community needs. It has launched a Sik Faan fund through GoFundMe and is accepting donations.
The collected amount will help buy meals for the first responders and the victims. These meals will be purchased from small restaurant community businesses.
According to the latest updates from WtC, a Los Angeles-based restaurant chain, Rosalynn Supper Club donated 1000 meals. Besides that,
“At the time of this update, we've raised an additional $2,890. $1,500 will go to SUA to provide first responders with meals from Saturday, Jan 11 - Monday, Jan 14. The remaining will go towards Rosalynn Supper Club as they continue to prep 1000 meals a day through the weekend. Stay strong LA!”
Chef Daniel Boulud has set up a GoFundMe campaign to support Dean Yasharian, owner of Perle Restaurant in Pasadena, California. Yasharian lost his home and community to the wildfires. While he and his family are safe, they face significant emotional, physical, and financial challenges.

A GoFundMe for The Reel Inn Malibu has been set up for the 36-year-old seafood spot in Malibu, destroyed in the Pacific Palisades fires. Owners Andy and Teddy Leonard are raising funds to support their staff with wages and benefits for three months as they recover from the loss.
People can also help the restaurant community by helping Altadena pizza and coffee shop Side Pie, owned by Kevin Hockin, which was destroyed in the wildfires. A GoFundMe has been initiated to raise $100,000. Hockin hopes to rebuild the neighborhood hub and support his team during this challenging time.
