Lynn Hirschberg of W Magazine interviewed Cynthia Erivo, and she spoke about her transition from performing at the theater to the movies while sharing some of the less-known details about her life.

The 37-year-old singer and actress revealed that she first saw a Wicked musical at age twenty-five and thought of playing the green-hued character, Elphaba, even though she never envisioned playing her in a movie.

"I had a notion in my head about playing Elphaba, but I didn’t know it would be possible to play her in the movie. My initial love was always the theater. It’s what I trained to do. But I knew I wanted to perform in whatever capacity, whether it be TV, screen, or theater."

The singer also recounted her first time singing onstage during a Nativity play when she sang Silent Night. Erivo shared some of her favorite parts about shooting Wicked, specifically the movie set. Her favorites were those outside Shiz because of the realistic waterways, rocks, and boats. Erivo also revealed that her secret talent was whistling in tune.

In another interview for ELLE UK magazine’s February 2025 issue, published on December 19, 2024, Cynthia Erivo revealed that she was working on her second album, which would be based on her life story and focus on her voice.
