After nearly two decades, Walmart has refreshed its logo. With this move, the global retail chain claims to align its identity with its current industry image as a people-led, tech-powered omnichannel retailer.

However, as with many major corporate changes, the internet has responded with criticism, memes, praise, and more to Walmart's logo update. It interestingly showcases how much brand perception can impact public opinion. The update is believed to be a calculated effort to mark Walmart's transformation while retaining elements of its tradition.

Pop Base, took its X (formerly Twitter) handle to share the new and old Walmart logo and captioned,

"Walmart unveils new logo for the first time in 17 years."

Netizens were quick to hype the post with their thoughts regarding the logo change. One such X user commented,

"Goosebumps all around."

Other users also weighed in on the comment section of the post. Below are what some of them had to share:

"Wow! Is anyone going to be able to still recognize them?", joked a netizen.
"That shade of blue really does look nicer", lauded another.
"Wow 4 years of graphic design in college and this is what they get?", remarked a third.
"Me before and after breathing", joined in a fourth.
"This one kinda looks better tho ngl", shared a fifth.
"All bro did was brighten up the colors and call it a day", commented a user.
"Must have cost millions and many years to develop such an incredible logo.", joined another.

A third posted,

"Walmart re-did their logo. This is the before and after. I can't believe someone got paid for this."

Key features of the new Walmart logo

The retail chain's refreshed branding does not stray far from its roots. It only brings subtle updates.

  • Font: The custom typeface, Everyday Sans, offers a modern look.
  • Color Palette: The True Blue and Spark Yellow tones remain consistent, and reinforce brand recognition.
  • Spark Symbol: The iconic spark remains, with slight but notable refinement.

The brand refresh extends beyond the logo. It also encompasses Walmart's website, app, and in-store looks. The rollout officially began in October 2024. The new branding is set to be fully implemented across all platforms by the end of 2025.

Below is what the brand highlighted about the rollout plan of its new branding:

"Walmart will apply the refreshed brand across various channels and customer touchpoints, from its website and app to its stores and new Home Office opening in Bentonville, Arkansas in January 2025. The process began to roll out in October 2024 with Store 4108 in Springdale, Arkansas, and the remaining stores will continue to be redesigned over time."

It also adds,

"The brand will officially launch on Walmart.com, the Walmart app, across marketing campaign assets and the corporate site in January with the remainder of Walmart’s assets rolling out throughout the year."
