Film legend Harrison Ford is the star of a new worldwide ad-campaign for Glenmorangie Highland single malt Scotch whiskey. The campaign comprises a series of episodic movies.

Directed by Australian actor and filmmaker Joel Edgerton, Once Upon a Time in Scotland takes audiences behind the scenes as Ford visits Glenmorangie's Highland home to learn about the artistry and craftsmanship that go into creating the whiskey.

From learning the subtleties of Scottish pronunciation and kilt etiquette to connecting with locals over a glass of single malt, the actor enjoys the genuine Scottish experience, all captured in an unusual, purposefully "off-script" manner.

About the campaign

The campaign, which was filmed in Scotland's stunning northeast Highlands, showcases the area's natural beauty: From the historic distillery in Tain, where Glenmorangie has been made for more than 180 years, to the famous 19th century Ardross Castle and the striking landscape around Loch Glass.

The real Glenmorangie distillery team, who welcomed their first acting experience, appears alongside Ford.

Glenmorangie Original 12 Years Old and Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Years Old, widely deemed the brand's flagship whiskies, also play a significant role.

Renowned fashion photographer Lachlan Bailey's still photos compliment Edgerton's 12 episodes. They show Ford in a way that has never been seen before: In a chic Scottish kilt created by the streetwear company Palace.

According to a report in The Drinks Business, Caspar MacRae, president and chief executive officer of The Glenmorangie Company, said:

“Harrison Ford is the real deal: A true global icon, and a genuine whisky lover. It was a dream come true to collaborate on this campaign, and welcome him to our home in the Highlands to discover more about Glenmorangie. He is someone who has honed his craft over decades, which gives him a real appreciation for the dedication and skill of our distillery team."

MacRae added:

“Like us, he’s not afraid to laugh at himself — and I think Joel has perfectly captured his authentic warmth, alongside his roguish sense of humour.”

Through Harrison's perspective, the company believes whiskey enthusiasts everywhere will appreciate discovering more about the actual people and locations where their whiskies are made.

The Indiana Jones had this to say about the experience, according to The Drinks Business:

“I loved working with the team at the distillery — they were all great. The whole process of filming was full of unanticipated joys: Little unexpected moments. It’s a tribute to Glenmorangie’s sensibilities that they let us be less than totally serious. I think what Joel has produced has a certain harm to it, because it’s unpretentious and just amusing.”

On his part, Joel Edgerton claimed he wanted to make something offbeat:

“I’ve spent my whole life watching commercials that follow an expected format and so I really like it when things are a little disruptive, fun, and irreverent. It was nice that we got a chance within the very traditional industry of whisky to get behind the scenes, to subvert the seriousness that often goes into an advertising campaign and have fun with that. I hope that people get to see the short film and the full-length episodes — and enjoy them and share them around.”
