Fashion brand DAIRIKU has joined hands with Weber to launch David Lynch’s Blue Velvet merchandise collection. The merchandise consists of T-shirts and knitwear, which can be checked out from Dairiku and Weber’s Instagram pages.
The David Lynch Blue Velvet collection, resulting from the collaboration between DAIRIKU and Weber will be launched on February 7, 2025, through the official online stores of the two brands. According to Hypebeast, the prices range from ¥8,800 (about $55) to ¥35,200 (about $225).
On February 7, 2025, the 4K remastered version of Blue Velvet will premiere at Shinjuku’s Cinema Qualité. The Weber Cinema Club, which shared images of the collection, is a new venture into film distribution, highlighting its long-standing passion for movies.
Since its inception, the brand has been known for its collection of vintage movie T-shirts, reflecting its deep appreciation for cinema. However, now, the brand plans to bring select films to theaters, chosen based on their unique perspective. The company remains committed to focusing on what it genuinely loves. Concerning the movie’s relaunch, an Instagram post (caption translated) mentioned:
“Nicknamed the "Cult" emperor, director David Lynch's distinctive worldview will be screened in Japan for the first time in a remastered 4K version. I hope you'll watch it on the screen. In conjunction with the screening, "DAIRIKU" (@dairiku), known as "weber", will also be selling products in collaboration with Blue Velvet.”
More about the DAIRIKU x Weber x David Lynch Blue Velvet collection
According to Hypebeast, the collection honoring David Lynch features clothing inspired by iconic moments from the film. It includes a knit sweater made from brushed yarn designed to mimic the texture of velvet, along with an oversized open-collar design.
T-shirts in the lineup showcase artwork from the film’s Italian release and Japanese promotional materials, with a washed finish for a more relaxed fit. Weber describes (translated) the knitwear sweater as:
“Knit knitted with hair-raising yarn to resemble velvet, named after the title Blue Velvet. It will be a dress with a transfer print of the movie poster all over the body.”
Another collection is an open-collar shirt that appears oversized. The brand mentions that the shirts are made from different materials. However, the brand made it oversized to give one the feeling of talking to a poster.
Then, there is a long-sleeve T-shirt that has visuals of singer Dorothy Valens, nicknamed "Blue Lady", placed on the front. A printed commercial copy of her Japanese release is there on the back. The brand has also placed its logo on the sleeves, in vintage Blue Velvet. On the back side, a quote from the David Lynch movie reads:
“It's a strange world isn't it? The discovery of a severed human ear found in a field leads a young man on an investigation related to a beautiful, mysterious nightclub singer and a group of psychopathic criminals who have kidnapped her child.”
The round-neck T-shirt is similar to the long-sleeve one. It also has visuals of Dorothy Valens. It is wash-processed and tumbler-dried to give it a slick feel. The product description mentions that it replicates the 90-00s atmosphere.
