Cracker Barrel is bringing a taste of the South to its all-day breakfast menu with the launch of Shrimp n’ Grits, a limited-time dish with Creole flavors.
Cracker Barrel has been a go-to spot for traditional American breakfasts and Southern dishes since 1969. With over 660 locations across the U.S., the restaurant chain has often introduced seasonal specialties, and this spring is no exception.
The Shrimp n’ Grits dish features a combination of shrimp, Andouille sausage, and vegetables, all simmered in Creole sauce and served over creamy grits. The dish is then rounded out with a side of grilled parmesan sourdough bread. It is expected to make the items a good option for both breakfast and dinner.
However, since it is only available for a limited time, fans of Southern cuisine may want to try it before it disappears from the menu.
Exploring Cracker Barrel's new Shrimp n’ Grits
Cracker Barrel’s take on this Southern dish starts with shrimp, which is cooked in a mildly spicy Creole sauce. The sauce is then infused with flavors from Andouille sausage, known for its slightly peppery taste, along with a mix of onions, celery, and red peppers.
These ingredients are combined with grits, which are prepared in a “dinner-style” fashion. Introducing the chain's new Spring 2025 menu, the brand's Chief Marketing Officer Sarah Moore stated in a press release:
"Our spring menu lineup is just as bold and savory as it is sweet and indulgent. Our new Creole Shrimp skillets appease guests with an appetite for fresh flavors and zest this season; for those wanting something a bit more indulgent, our new OREO Stuffed Cheesecake Pancakes, a new twist on our staple Strawberry Stuffed Cheesecake Pancakes, are sure to delight."
The Shrimp n' Grits is accompanied by grilled parmesan sourdough bread, which is expected to offer a contrast to the soft grits. The parmesan adds a hint of umami, complementing the Creole spices.
The dish is part of a larger seasonal menu
The brand new Shrimp n’ Grits is one of multiple new additions to Cracker Barrel’s spring menu, which includes both sweet and savory options.
Other highlights include the Louisiana-Style Shrimp Skillet, featuring grilled shrimp over seasoned rice with Creole sauce, and a range of indulgent breakfast items like OREO Stuffed Cheesecake Pancakes. The dessert lineup has also expanded, with offerings such as Strawberry Icebox Pie and a Pancake Latte, blending espresso with maple flavors.
Cracker Barrel has confirmed that Shrimp n’ Grits will be available nationwide for a limited time, but an exact end date has not been announced.
Given the restaurant chains's trend of rotating seasonal items, there is no guarantee that this dish will return once it leaves the menu. Those interested in trying it may want to visit their nearest Cracker Barrel soon.
