Borderlands 4's official trailer releasing on December 12, 2024
Set in a space Western science fantasy setting, Borderlands is an action role-playing first-person looter shooter video game line. The game was created by Gearbox Software and first published by 2K in 2009. The title gained notable attention in the global gaming industry for its first-person shooting mechanics with role-playing elements and an offbeat sense of humor. It is also known for its colorful cel-shaded art style and a virtual universe sported with characters of various arcs.
The series has had multiple sequels released, with Borderlands 2 in 2012 and Borderlands 3 launched in 2019. Spin-offs like Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands were also launched. Now, Gearbox aims to continue this fan-loved line with Borderlands 4, which is being described as the most ambitious Borderlands yet.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford took to X (formerly Twitter) to tease the trailer launch. His post was captioned:
"It's happening, you guys! I will be at The Game Awards with a new trailer for Borderlands 4. I can't wait!"
He indicated that the trailer will feature in-game footage and scenes featuring the storylines of Borderlands 3 and 4.
The teaser shown at Gamescom earlier this year hinted at a mysterious new character and a darker tone. Pitchford revealed that the last frames of the teaser would transition into the new trailer.
What We Know About Borderlands 4
Details about the latest sequel of the loved title are still mostly under wraps. Some speculations are being reported, nevertheless. As a looter-shooter, the game will likely retain the franchise’s signature mechanics, such as expansive scenarios, multiplayer modes, and procedurally generated weapons. Gearbox has also hinted at new gameplay features as well.
To draw the prelude of this latest edition, Gearbox has crafted the postlude of Borderlands 3 notably. Below is how they had to describe it:
"After a pursuit that took the Crimson Raiders across the universe, Lilith finally regained her stolen Siren powers—but Pandora's moon of Elpis was on a catastrophic collision course with the planet."
It continues:
"To save all of Pandora, Lilith was determined to "run towards the fire" and launched herself at Elpis, teleporting the entire moon into unknown space and leaving behind the Firehawk emblem. Now we've seen where Elpis ended up—along with the cataclysmic aftermath."
While no exact release date of the game has been announced, the producers have indicated an early summer 2025 release. Before that, be ready to witness the official trailer on December 12, the day after tomorrow.
