Christmas Day is usually seen as a day spent with loved ones - all shopping is usually done by then, and due to this, many stores in Colorado remain closed on the big day. However, while some stores stay open for various reasons, the state of Colorado had previously banned the sale of liquor on Christmas day, making it a legal offense to have liquor stores open on Christmas and Sundays.
However, bars and restaurants could still open and serve liquor on these days. But now, things are a little different.
Colorado lifted the liquor store ban on Christmas Day earlier this year
While earlier, liquor stores were banned from opening on Sundays and Christmas Day in Colorado, this rule has changed over the last several years. Back in 2008, the Sunday ban was repealed and liquor stores were legally allowed to be open and operational on Sundays. However, the Christmas Day ban was still intact.
Now, however, earlier this year, the state of Colorado also lifted the ban on liquor stores opening on Christmas. While the sale of liquor is legally allowed in Colorado now, ahead of Christmas 2024, it is worth noting that there are still certain limitations to this.
Liquor stores are allowed to remain open and functional between 8:00 AM and midnight on Christmas Day. Similarly, bars and restaurants can serve alcohol throughout the day, except between the hours of 2:00 AM and 7:00 AM.
While this still does not guarantee that you may find all liquor stores open on Christmas this year in Colorado, it is not a legal offense if you do find one that is open.
However, since the period is usually seen as a time that people prefer to spend with their family and loved ones, it is possible that liquor stores might still choose to remain closed to give employees the chance to spend the holidays with their families.
Therefore, it is always advisable to stock up on your liquor ahead of the big day to avoid any last-minute mishaps.
