Applying Vaseline and other tips to make colognes last longer
It is a common wish for the fragrance of perfumes to last longer. Sometimes, the favorite scents just last a few minutes. This can be a frustrating experience, especially if you have invested in a higher-priced product. While luxury products can have long-lasting fragrances, that may not always be the case.
We have curated some tips on how you can prolong the fragrance of your perfumes:
1. Choosing the right fragrance
While this might seem basic, choosing the right type of fragrance is very important. Eau de toilette are fragrances with lesser concentration compared to perfumes and parfums. Naturally, highly concentrated perfumes are likely to last longer. Additionally, choosing fragrances with more intense ingredients such as oud, or warm spices is likely to last longer.
2. Applying Vaseline
Make your perfumes last longer by first dipping the Vaseline in boiling water. Take it out of the water generously spray your favorite perfume on it and mix it with a stick. Once done, place the Vaseline in the fridge.
This helps set the fragrance in the vaseline. Please note that users have reported that this trick works best with fragrances that are relatively long-lasting, for example, Bleu de Chanel can easily last for a few hours.
3. Apply cologne to pulse points
Pulse points are the parts of the body that naturally heat up more than others. The heat intensifies the scent, making the fragrance last longer. You can select two to three points, which include the lower jaw, neck, shoulder, chest, elbow, forearm, and wrist.
In an interview with Tira, Abdulla Ajmal, CEO of legacy fragrance brand Ajmal Perfumes reinforced the idea of using perfume on pulse points. He added that one can also add a light mist to the hair to make it last longer.
4. Layering fragrances
There is no right or wrong perfume, there is only one that works for you. Rather than investing in the same perfume multiple times, you can save the quantity of your favorite perfume with another one. Since there is no rule to layering you can experiment with the fragrances. A common recommendation is to pair fragrances that are warm and fresh.
5. Storage
While it is common and tempting to display colognes for others to see, it may not be the best idea. The storage of perfumes is also a determinant of how lasting they will last. It is recommended that perfumes are stored in a dry and cold area, away from humidity or bright sunlight. This helps in retaining the quantity and quality of the perfume.
It is important to note that Vaseline does not have the properties to make cologne stay longer. This would mean that this trick may or may not work with certain colognes.
