Slayyyter on her debut mixtape and musical journey
Slayyyter, real name Catherine Grace Garner, broke out in the music scene by releasing music on SoundCloud. Her debut mixtape, Slayyyter, was released to generally positive reviews and featured other pop singers like Ayesha Erotica.
Since then, the pop singer has released Troubled Paradise and Starfu**er, which received positive reviews from critics and peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Dance/ Electronic Albums chart. Celebrating the anniversary of her debut mixtape, Slayyyter sat down for an interview with Paper Magazine in September 2024.
She spoke about the legacy of her first release and how she felt listening to her eponymous mixtape years after:
"So I’m really proud of all of it, not just the music, but the visuals, too, and my shi**y webcam photos. I feel like people with a budget are moving into a space of trying to do shi**y camcorder and webcam visuals, and that feels like the coolest thing in the world. There's lasting power there with something that I did just out of necessity."
The 28-year-old also revealed her definition of a successful musical career and what matters to her:
“I just want to make cool music and cool visuals. I'm not really looking for chart success or a crazy viral moment. If I'm happy with my output at the end of the day, that's all that matters.”
Slayyyter’s most recent track, "No Comma," was released on September 20, 2024. The singer’s upcoming album, S3, is expected to hit the airwaves in 2025.
