Although Chick-fil-A was founded in the 1960s, the fast-food franchise goes back to 1946 after its founder S. Truett Cathy established the Dwarf Grill/Dwarf House in the same year. More than sixty years later, the franchise is the largest chain of restaurants specializing in chicken sandwiches, with over 3000 outlets in the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, and Canada. While it hasn't yet caught on throughout the world, that is going to change shortly, as the company plans to expand into Asia and Europe.

How many calories are in a Chick-fil-A sandwich?

According to their official website, a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich has 420 calories as of 2025. That figure, however, only applies to the franchise’s standard chicken sandwich. The Chick-fil-A Deluxe Sandwich and Spicy Chicken Sandwich are 490 calories and 450 calories, respectively. Furthermore, it is worth noting that these numbers are only for the sandwich alone and not any add-ons that the customer may opt for, or even the sides and/or beverages in a meal.

About Chick-Fil-A

While Chick-fil-A was formally created in 1962, its roots may be traced back to 1946, when previous CEO S. Truett Cathy started the Dwarf Grill. However, fifteen years later, and thanks to a pressure fryer, Cathy established Chick-fil-A, and the rest is history. By 1967, the sandwich had been licensed in more than fifty restaurants, but they were swiftly withdrawn when the firm opened its own location.

Since then, the company has expanded rapidly, and as of 2023, it operates over 3000 sites across North America, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, the firm said in 2023 that it plans to grow into Europe and Asia, as well as five other worldwide markets, by 2030. Despite their current locations, the company is still valued at more than USD 6 billion, with revenues of $11.3 billion in the United States alone in 2019.
