Costco recalled Kirkland Signature butter from its store because it was missing the label stating it "contains milk." This sparked a wave of reactions on social media as fans took to X to express their views.

Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest LLC in Texas conducted the recall, which found that around 46,800 pounds of Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter and 32,400 pounds of Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter did not contain milk on their packaging labels. The batch affected is being recalled because it contains milk, an allergen that could seriously harm sensitive consumers.

Following the incident, the FDA has classified it as a Class II recall, meaning that the product could cause temporary adverse effects to those with milk allergies.

According to the FDA, companies must label their food products containing milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame under its law.

The recall took the people on the internet by surprise as they found it amusing to process the news. An independent journalist, Mindy MF Robinson, wrote on X:

“The FDA is forcing Costco to throw out 80,000 lbs of real butter.....because there's no "warning" it contains milk on the carton. Meanwhile, how many toxic chemicals are in margarine and "I Definitely Believe it's Not Butter?" She quipped.

Reactions from netizens

More social media users expressed their reactions, saying:

“I’m ahead of you. I parked my van outside of Costco and put up a sign that says “RETURN YOUR RECALLED BUTTER HERE” Someone also joked on how they are waiting outside Costco for the free butter.
“80,000 pounds of Costco butter was just recalled, because the label doesn't say that it contains milk. It's butter. News articles are telling people how they can return, or safely dispose of, the butter. It's butter.” Another user said.
“Can y’all please safely dispose of it at my house? I have a lot of holiday baking to do.” One user wrote.
“I’ll take some off your hands if you wish. It’s really expensive in Sweden.” Another user added to the tweet.
“In my house, we'd be through it by the end of the month.” A user wrote.

Social media users also reacted through different memes and GIFs.

According to a few other users, it was the idiocy of the FDA to take such a ridiculous step.

“Did you know that water contains water? It's vegan, put not pure. Soon you will ban minerals water because of its mineral content and ask idiots to drink distilled water. - End of satire.” One person wrote on X.
“This epitomizes the ridiculousness of government regulation. The FDA; “OMG, Costco didn’t warn that their butter can cause people with dairy allergies to DIE!” People with dairy allergies; “Yeah, it’s butter.” “It is literally milk!” Someone else commented on X.
