With changing times, much has revolutionized Korean skincare routines. Owing to the global admiration of K-beauty, there has been an increased demand for cutting-edge technology in makeup and skincare. We have curated a list of ten trends in the K-world that you should not miss out on this year:

1. Double SPF

While the global popularity of sunscreens has significantly risen, less is known about the double SPF Korean trend. According to this, Korean beauticians and aestheticians advise using two layers of sunscreens. The first layer gets absorbed in the skin, while the other acts as a physical barrier to harmful rays.

2. Snail mucin skincare

One of the prominent trends this year has been the increased popularity of snail mucin products. These Korean skincare products have various benefits, including increased collagen production, instant hydration, anti-aging properties, and prevention of fine lines.

3. Glass skin

The glass skin trend has gone viral in 2024. As the name suggests, glass skin refers to the smooth and lustrous skin many people in Korea have. There is no single way to achieve this skin type. While this trend has gained massive popularity, it is important to consider the role of genetics and the environment on the skin.

4. Skin Minimalism

Korean skincare also gained traction for their step routines. A 5-step or 10-step skincare routine would incorporate multiple products and is often considered a maximalist approach to beauty. However, in 2024, there seems to be a shift towards minimalism in K-beauty trends, per Hiromi House. Users prefer products with multiple functionalities rather than investing in various products.

5. LED masks

While LED masks are not new technology, bringing them home for skincare has been trending. It is not unusual to spot an LED mask in a K-drama or a Korean actress sporting it. While pricey, many people have shown interest in buying these masks.

Relatively new, exosome therapy was primarily available in skincare clinics. However, the new trends demonstrate products that can be brought home. These are skin boosters that contribute to cell regeneration and, consequently, slow down the skin's aging process.

7. Anti-aging

It is a known fact that Korean skincare has incorporated traditional ingredients, such as ginseng, snail mucin, and others, to slow down skin aging. It has been recently trending that even a simple routine with toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen can have anti-aging effects.

8. Collagen supplements

Whether in the form of powders or tablets, collagen is a very popular supplement in Korea. It is especially part of anti-aging routines and helps promote skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

9. Cleansing balms

Cleansing balms may replace micellar water and other makeup cleansing products in 2024. Balms offer a luxurious yet gentle way of cleaning makeup and are often made of natural ingredients. Korean balms leave your skin feeling moisturized rather than greasy.

10. Fermented foods

While fermented foods are not Korean skincare, their incorporation into diets is very important. Due to the connection between probiotics and good skincare, it is not unusual to see kimchi and other fermented foods in Korean households.

Korean makeup and skincare have transformed the global market. Many continue to look forward to trends that often become viral hits. While the market is ever-changing, K-beauty trends are here to stay.
