Lily Collias spoke about landing the role of Sam in "Good One" and said that she grew up in Los Angeles, but didn’t click with the people in the theater department in high school.

But she said that the reason she moved to New York after graduation was to try acting. Then a friend from her school just egged her on to audition for "Good One".

She said: "They had been trying to fill the role of Sam for two months, but they liked my tape."

She went on to talk about how she prepared for her role.

She said: "I didn’t know what to expect, so I read the script over and over and had the whole thing memorized by the time I got to set."

Given that Collias is remarkably confident for her age and that the character reflects this, it's clear why Donaldson chose her for the part of Sam.

Even the turquoise heart choker that Sam wears throughout the movie is on her, however based on Collias's Instagram, it appears to be a regular accessory of hers as well.

Her ability to convey Sam's thoughts without using words, particularly when things reach a boiling point, adds a great deal of quiet background to a story that seems deeply ingrained in the fabric of being a woman.

The interaction between Collias and Donaldson during the film's production was largely responsible for such nuance.
