The Jordan brand celebrates the Lunar New Year every year by releasing a limited-edition line of both vintage and contemporary sneaker designs. This year, the brand will honor the Snake by releasing a line of footwear, which will include the Air Jordan 1 Low OG.
However, this year's major release will be in three parts, with an Air Jordan 11 Low and an Air Jordan 5 now anticipated to accompany the latter.
The ladies-only Air Jordan 5 CNY "Year of the Snake" will have a mostly white upper with a snake pattern inspired by rainbows on the midsole. Additionally, the design will incorporate the iconic black snake-skin Jordan hang-tag, which is a defining characteristic of all Jordan "Year of the Snake" models.
Release date, where to buy, and price
The sneaker is speculated to be released on January 23, 2025, and will be available to buy online and in-store options including Nike. Like its predecessors, the new Air Jordan 5 "Year of the Snake" will reportedly retail at $200.
Sneaker design - Air Jordan 5
The Air Jordan 5 "Year of the Snake" is the latest in Jordan Brand's series of iridescent-decorated sneakers with a Chinese New Year theme.
The highest eyestay panels and the shark teeth on the midsole, which are modeled after WW2 fighter jets, have a shimmering rainbow appearance.
With the exception of a peach lace toggle inside a bigger, translucent shell and black Jumpman branding on the heel, most of the shoe is then made of shades of white.
A black faux snakeskin Jumpman hangtag that matches the other "Year of the Snake" Air Jordans is included, and the outsole is likewise made of translucent rubber.
About the Chinese Zodiac
Based on the Chinese calendar, the Chinese zodiac is a traditional classification system that designates an animal and its associated qualities to each year in a twelve-year cycle. Chinese philosophy and culture are reflected in the zodiac, which is highly significant in traditional Chinese culture.
According to Chinese folklore, a person's personality is correlated with the characteristics of their zodiac animal. The zodiac and its variants, which have their origins in China, are still widely used in many East and Southeast Asian nations, including Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Nepal, Bhutan, Cambodia, and Thailand.
The designation of this system as a "zodiac" reflects apparent parallels with the Western zodiac: both systems divide time cycles into twelve parts, assign animal names to most of those parts, and attribute a person's personality or life events to their specific relationship to the cycle.
In Chinese astrology, there are two schools of thought about the beginning of a zodiac year: the Chinese New Year or the beginning of spring.
About the Jordan brand
Few trademarks are more recognizable than the Jumpman silhouette from Jordan Brand. Nike's Swoosh is one of the few logos that could be as well-known as the Jumpman. The two emblems were combined on an Air Jordan sneaker before 1997.
Nike collaborated with Michael Jordan to produce his iconic shoe, but the Air Jordan collection soon gained enough traction that it no longer required the Swoosh to support it. The Nike-Jordan collaboration was so successful that Jordan Brand was able to launch as a separate business in 1997 and has never looked back.
The silhouette of Michael Jordan dunking is only one aspect of the Jumpman logo. Whether it is seen as a depiction of Michael or his beloved clothing line, that logo is a symbol of greatness.
The Jumpman is one of the most identifiable and adored symbols in marketing history. Even though Michael Jordan is no longer playing basketball, the Jordan brand is still thriving strong and shows no signs of slowing down.
