Jordan Brand is reportedly set to bring back one of its most beloved designs, the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red “Black Tongue” in 2025. According to Sneaker Bar Detroit, the pair is scheduled to hit the shelves on September 13, 2025, with a retail price point of around $210.
Fans should expect to find the shoes on the official Nike website, SNKRS app, and select Jordan Brand retailers. This reported release marks the 35th anniversary of the Air Jordan 5.

Originally released in 1990, the Air Jordan 5 quickly became a beloved silhouette in Michael Jordan’s signature sneaker line. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the model took inspiration from the World War II fighter jets. Over the years, multiple colorways have surfaced, including the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red “Black Tongue”.
Since its last retro release in 2013, Jordan Brand is reportedly bringing back this classic with OG details, including the original Nike Air branding on the heel.
How could the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red “Black Tongue” sneakers look?
The Air Jordan 5 Fire Red “Black Tongue” stays true to its original White, Black, and Fire Red color scheme, Sneaker Bar Detroit reports. The upper of the sneaker is crafted from a premium white leather. The signature mesh netting on the side panels enhances breathability while maintaining the OG look.
One of the standout features of this edition is the black tongue, which distinguishes it from the “Silver Tongue” version. The black tongue contrasts against the white upper for a visual balance.
Red accents are featured on the key elements, including Michael Jordan’s signature 23 embroidered on the lateral heel, the Jumpman logo on the tongue, and the fire-red lace lock.
The midsole is primarily Fire Red. It features the signature shark teeth design in black, inspired by the fighter jets. The sneaker sits atop an icy translucent outsole, a signature detail of the Air Jordan 5.
The heel branding is another highlight, as this version brings back the Nike Air logo, which was missing from the 2006 and 2013 retros. This small detail makes this edition the closest recreation of the 1990 OG since its original release.
StockX describes the 2013 edition of the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red on its official website, stating,
"The Air Jordan 5 Retro Fire Red Black Tongue 2013 is yet another addition to the fall collection from the Jordan brand."
It continues:
"The Air Jordan 5 Retro Fire Red Black Tongue 2013 comes in black, white, and Fire Red colorways. This shoe is covered with rubber, suede, and plastic materials. The sneaker comes with red lace locks, a midsole featuring an air unit, and a Jumpman at the heel. The inner part is covered in Fire Red cloth material."
However, some may find the leather of Air Jordan 5 Fire Red 2025 sneakers slightly stiffer from the past versions, and the icy outsole is prone to yellowing over time.
The Air Jordan 5 Fire Red “Black Tongue” is set to launch on September 13, 2025, at select Jordan Brand retailers and the official Nike website. It will be available in full-family sizing, with the men’s pair priced at $210, as reported by Sneaker Bar Detroit.
