Kai Cenat has refused to wear anything other than Nike and turned down Christmas presents from rapper A$AP Rocky that belonged to the brand. Streaming live to 15 million fans on Twitch the night before Christmas, the online star opened a ton of gifts sent to him during the broadcast.
Among the gifts was a box of Puma gear from "LVL" rapper A$AP Rocky. Cenat wanted nothing to do with the gift right away, even though it was meant to be a nice gesture.
Cenat exclaimed on the livestream as he opened Rocky's gift: "A$AP Rocky! Puma?! Damn, A$AP, I’m Nike! I can’t have no f*cking Puma. Come on! Damn, man!"
He went on to unwrap the rest of the gifts from the rapper though he didn't seem too happy, and found a second box of Puma merchandise. He quickly put away the second box from the camera frame and said: "A$AP, I can’t do this, I’m Nike. I’m putting this to the side. I’m checks!"
Cenat continued calling Puma out and said: "The opps… Puma, you really tried. I’m Nike, you really tried that?" Puma is a direct rival of Nike and, as he opened A$AP Rocky's Christmas presents, Cenat was compelled to uphold his brand loyalty because of his association with Nike.
The fact that Cenat was excited about receiving a Christmas present from A$AP Rocky just to discover that it was something he couldn't use, gave viewers a viral moment and plenty of amusement.
However, Cenat's stream wasn't ruined by the Puma merchandise gifted to him. The 10-year-old rapper Lil RT joined the broadcast once Cenat had finished unpacking Christmas presents.
Lil RT's older brother is currently in the hospital after being shot in November. So far, he has received 60 blood transfusions in addition to several medical procedures. In order to help the young rapper's family with the medical bills, Cenat promised Lil RT $16,000. After Cenat met the initial need, they increased the GoFundMe goal to $40,000.
Kai Cenat's history with Nike
Kai Cenat became the first streamer to strike a contract with a major company like Nike in February 2024, when he revealed the news to millions of watchers and fans, saying: "I would like to announce that we are officially a part of the Nike family. This has been a long time waiting."
In September, the streamer unveiled Nike's Air Max 1 "Low Poly" footwear. The sneaker, which cost $150, has a red and grey color pattern.
Cenat revealed the sneaker in a series of videos and images posted via the brand's dotSwoosh program, from his streaming room. Although the overall shape has a pixelated appearance, the sneaker is really an iteration of the "University Red" Air Max 1 colorway.
Nike claims that the design pays homage to the aesthetic of vintage video games from the 1990s and early 2000s.
