Ongoing food recalls are at an all-time high in the US, with companies such as Costco, Berkley, and Baker Farms recalling products owing to the presence of microbial strains. These could be highly hazardous, leading conditions including salmonellosis and diarrhoea.
The following list features food items ranging from fresh food to packaged meat. So, even when you shop for groceries from retailers promising organic deals, keep the list in mind.
Here, we discuss five current food recalls you should definitely know about before biting into your next meal.
5 ongoing food recalls in the US that you must know before the next meal
1) Yummy Dino Buddies Holidays Nuggets (Costco)
The chicken nuggets, sold out at Costco in a jiffy, came in from Canada before authorities could run a re-inspection. To identify this batch, look for the festive green and red packaging, and a 'best before' date of 11/06/ 26. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a notice for a recall of the product on December 4, 2024. According to FSIS, people who've already consumed these need not worry because there have been no reports of severe illness.
2) SunFed produce cucumbers
There has been a huge ongoing recall of the product since November 27. Reportedly, these batches were imported and sold by wholesalers October 12 onwards. Retailers such as Krogers, King Scoopers, Walmart, and others had stored and sold these cucumbers.
As per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), more than 68 people who consumed cucumbers of this batch have contracted Salmonellosis.
You can identify these cucumbers by spotting the Sunfed label with the UPC 8 2540107010 6. You can also flag batches that have the same label and the production place mentioned as Mexico.
3) Ecuadorian Mortadella (Frozen pork meat)
The product has not particularly cause any illness in those who have consumed it, but FSIS issued a recall order on the packaged and frozen meat because they have been illegally exported from Ecuador.
The Mortadella is Illegal because Ecuador does not have legal permit to sell meat in the US and, hence, these products don't have a sanction from USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture).
Contact [email protected] if you come across any vacuum-sealed frozen pork package with a label reading "Mortadela ESPECIAL BOLOGNIA".
4) Bowl & Basket Onion soup and Dip mix
If you are a vegetarian/vegan you would want to stay away from the onion soup mix from the Bowl & Basket brand. The products is undergoing recall because the presence of eggs in the recipe has not been mentioned.
Authorities are worried that people with any form of allergy to eggs might develop severe consequences if they consume the product. Luckily, there are not many batches out in the market.
If you want to be sure that you didn't pick the previous batch, steer clear of the Bowl & Basket cartons that have 'best before' dates of September 27, 2025, and October 11, 2025.
5) Baker Farms Curly Mustard
Texas Department of State Health Services has issued a recall for Baker Farms Curly Mustard greens. Reportedly, these packages tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
So far, no one who has consumed the product has complained of any symptoms. However, the notice is to discard the packages or to return them to the sellers for a full refund.
You can do so if you have bought a clear plastic bag of these with a 'best before' date of November 21, 2024, although it's past the date.
