Christmas is the time for food and snacking. With everyone at home enjoying the holidays, you can stock up on all food products - pre-cooked or veggies.

Holiday shoppers should be aware of the ongoing recalls of certain dishes that may be served at family get-togethers throughout the Christmas season as they browse the aisles this week for ingredients.

Food recalls can occur for several reasons, such as the presence of unidentified components that may cause an allergic reaction or the possibility of bacterial contamination, such as salmonella or E. coli.

Popular items used for appetizers, main courses, sides, holiday drinks, and desserts are among the recalled foods that might be served at the holiday meal.

Costco Eggs

A voluntary recall of Handsome Brook Farms' 24-count organic pasture-raised eggs, marketed under the Kirkland Signature brand, was started last month due to possible salmonella contamination. Twenty-five Costco locations in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee received the eggs.

Eggs with the Julian number 327 and a use-by date of January 6, 2025, packaged in plastic cartons are the subject of the recall. The package also includes the UPC 9661910680.

Lay's Classic Potato Chips

After discovering that some bags of Lay's Classic Potato Chips may have included unreported milk, Frito-Lay announced a recall last week. Oregon and Washington were the two states where the products were sold.

The date on the recalled chips is Feb. 11, 2025, with UPC 28400 31041 and the “Guaranteed Fresh” date of Feb. 11, 2025, and either Manufacturing Code 6462307xx or 6463307xx.

MadeGood Granola Bars

Several MadeGood granola bar varieties have been recalled because they may contain metal fragments that could endanger consumers' safety. Among the recalled varieties are,

  • Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake Granola Bars,
  • Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble Granola Bars,
  • Chocolate Chip Granola Bars,
  • Mixed Berry Granola Bars,
  • Strawberry Granola Bars,
  • Cookies & Crème Granola Bars,
  • Chocolate Banana Granola Bars,
  • Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla Granola Bars

Only items with certain universal product codes (UPCs) and best-by dates are affected by the recall; these are all included in the FDA notification.

Connie's Thin Crust Cheese Frozen Pizza

Due to a "possible plastic foreign contaminant," Connie's Thin Crust Cheese Frozen Pizzas have been recalled in more than 1,700 units, as of December 13.

The pizzas are no longer for sale, although they were given to stores in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Their lot number is MR199856, and their best-by date is November 27, 2024.

Yu Shang Food Meat Products

Baker Farms' curly mustard greens were recently recalled because of possible Listeria contamination, which can result in foodborne disease. Nine southern states sell 16-ounce packages that are affected by the recall. Their lot code is bak144-6806, their universal product code (UPC) is 8 13098 02018 4, and their best-by date is Nov. 21, 2024.

Nowadays, food recalls are an unavoidable aspect of being a customer. Even businesses that promote the greatest food safety procedures occasionally create meals that pose a risk to customer safety, whether it's due to the presence of an unreported allergen or the presence of infectious microorganisms. Therefore, manufacturers remove products from stores and issue recalls to alert consumers not to consume them when they learn or believe a product is dangerous.

Make sure to go through the products you buy or have already bought. Be safe out there!
