Vera Djikmans did what most people do when looking for love but she turned it into a recruitment process. The 27-year-old model and social media influencer decided to open applications for the role of "boyfriend," and — the world responded.
Over 5,000 men lined up for the chance to be the chosen one. But after all the swiping, scrolling, and probably some truly unhinged DMs, Djikmans picked only three candidates.
Then, she hit pause on the whole thing because apparently, she is the "world's most wanted boyfriend."
Vera Djikmans application madness
If you thought online dating was exhausting, imagine sifting through 5,000 boyfriend résumés.
Djikmans, with her 5.5 million Instagram followers, had men practically forming an orderly queue in her DMs, all vying for a chance at a relationship. But apparently, most of them didn’t meet the mark.
Only three made it past her "strict" selection process. Despite the overwhelming response, Djikmans decided to pump the brakes.
Djikmans is not the one to settle for "just okay." She openly demands a partner who is "almost perfect".
Speaking with Daily Mail, she says:
“At the moment, I’ve put the boyfriend search on hold but I’m keeping my options open. I’m just very picky and I need a guy to be almost perfect.”
But she stands by it, championing self-respect over settling. She was quoted by the NY Post stating:
“Women need to have more respect for themselves and set clear boundaries with men.”

Djikmans is also dropping dating wisdom, too. Some of her golden rules include:
Set Clear Boundaries: No last-minute invites. No "U up?" texts. No "let’s just chill." If he can’t plan a real date, he’s not worth your time. NY Post further quoted her as stating:
“You shouldn’t settle for late-night requests to ‘come over’ or going on dates where he has made no effort to plan in advance This is a hard rule of mine.”
“A man should take you on a proper date – like going out for dinner or doing an activity together. If they don’t suggest an impressive first date, I won’t bother going.”
Look for Effort, Not Just Expensive Gifts: While she’s been showered with Louis Vuitton and Hermès, even a simple bouquet can show appreciation.
“He should bring you a gift, too. A bouquet with flowers would also be OK. It doesn’t have to be something extravagant. but it shows that he values your time and company.”
“I want the princess treatment because that is what I deserve – and you do, too.”
Spot the Red Flags: If he only texts after 10 PM or has double standards, it's a no-go.
“You shouldn’t accept behaviour such as him only texting you after 10:00 p.m., because it shows that he doesn’t respect you. If that happens, you should immediately cut him off.”
“You also need to keep an eye out for men that make false promises or have double standards. If they don’t take care of themselves both in terms of hygiene and finances, that’s another big red flag for me.”
The haters (because of course)
Not everyone is cheering her on. Djikmans has faced her fair share of critics, including some of her own family. One relative went full disapproval mode, calling her boyfriend's application process "disgraceful."
Then there was the makeup artist who, upon realizing they had mutual acquaintances, suddenly decided she didn’t want to work with Djikmans anymore.
“I recently had an interaction with a makeup artist who didn’t want to help me because she noticed her boyfriend followed me on social media.”
But despite the noise, she remains unbothered. For every critic, there’s a legion of women applauding her confidence and taking notes.
“It obviously feels good to receive attention and be loved.”
