It’s been almost six years since Marvel’s The Punisher stopped airing on Netflix after Marvel’s transition to Disney. Fans have since eagerly awaited its return, hoping to see their favorite vigilante back in action, and it looks like that day is finally near!

After reprising his role in Daredevil: Born Again (2025), Jon Bernthal is set to star in and co-write an untitled Punisher television special to be released in 2026.

When asked about the "dark" Disney+ project, the 48-year-old actor assured fans, "I’m getting the opportunity to tell the story that I think the fans deserve... It’s not going to be Punisher-lite. I promise you that."

His response has left fans thrilled, knowing their favorite vigilante will soon be back on screen.

Hilarious Fan Reactions

Fans were quite amused by Jon Bernthal’s remarks and had plenty of funny things to say about it and the show.

"Will it really be dark though?" a fan wondered.

As this fan points out, many filmmakers and actors promise a dark tone, but it doesn’t always deliver. So The Punisher better make sure he doles out some lethal punishments to his enemies!

"Can he wear the costume and not be depressed and remorseful?" requested another.

Looks like this fan really wants The Punisher to be less depressed and remorseful than in the first two seasons. Now that Marvel is owned by Disney, maybe they could dedicate an episode to him enjoying some fun rides and eating cotton candy at Disneyland.

Jon Bernthal has often expressed how much he loves playing The Punisher. And with the show set to return next year, guess who's about to have a blast for the next few months!

"Can't have a light punisher. Same way we can't have a pg-13 Deadpool," a fan joked.

This fan makes a solid point - The Punisher can't be light; he needs to be dark. Otherwise, it’d be like watching a PG-13 Deadpool or The Avengers as a singing, dancing choir.

"Punisher gonna make me lose all my money, let's go!" commented another.

It seems this fan is ready to spend every penny just to watch The Punisher return. Well, lucky for him, it'll be on Disney+, and the subscription won't break the bank!

The Punisher might as well be called The Blesser now, with Jon Bernthal confirming the show's return next year. Well, just a few more months to go!
