The internet has once again discovered the power of meme marketing, and this time, the subject is the widely infamous Temu Pig T-shirt, which has taken Twitter by storm over the last week.

Temu, a Chinese company famous for notoriously cheap products has recently launched a new product, a plain black T-shirt that sports a highly horrifying visual, an overweight pig that seems to be peacefully enjoying themselves in a sauna.

Twitterati did not take too long to complain that their entire timeline was full of posts about the Temu Pig T-shirt simply because the company had been marketing the bizarre product that aggressively.

As is the usual trend with Twitter, it did not take long for users to start creating memes out of the viral T-shirt, with themes ranging from The Devil Wears Prada to Spiderman and "4 Lads in Jeans."

Others even posted sarcastic tweets about how Temu must have blown up their entire quarterly marketing budget on this t-shirt to have become so viral all over social media.

However, Temu has seemingly not stopped at the pig t-shirt when it comes to bizarre designs. Apparently, another famous design is floating in the market now - a dog in a wig.

While Twitter is abuzz with memes and posts about this horrifying T-shirt, the thought process behind this product is quite innovative and interesting.

Why has the Temu Pig T-shirt suddenly become viral?

Speaking about Temu's business model to The Guardian, retail expert Matt Piner explained that the disturbing visuals are integral to Temu's business model simply because they are eye-catching.

"Some of their products are very much about catching the eye... If you’re scrolling down a page and there’s one of them in the advert, you stop."

Furthermore, the marketing strategy for the Temu Pig T-shirt seems to add a human element to a vastly mechanical scrolling experience on social media lately. The advert seems to be a computer-generated post since it would not normally be posted by an actual person. This phenomenon breaks the pattern of mindless scrolling and brings the product to the user's attention.

Moreover, in terms of their marketing too, Temu relies heavily on meme marketing. Once they aggressively pushed the Temu Pig T-shirt on enough people's social media, the rest of the marketing happened through the memes and posts people created.

With its now-viral Pig T-shirt, Temu has shown how impactful meme marketing can be in the current digital marketing scenario.
