Remember the 1997 film I Know What You Did Last Summer? The slasher film about four teens getting stalked by a hook-wielding killer, a year after covering up a deadly car accident, surely became a major part of many of our childhoods. The film even went on to spawn a franchise, including a 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, and a 2021 TV series of the same name. And now, it looks like the franchise is all set to gear up for its third installment!

People have just had an exclusive first glimpse of the upcoming sequel, I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is set to premiere in theaters this July. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. will be seen reprising their iconic roles from the 1997 classic. The news has left fans of the original hyped, as they can’t wait to revisit some hard-hitting nostalgia.

Hilarious Internet Reactions

Users on X have had plenty of amusing things to say about the upcoming film, sharing their hilarious reactions online.

"We really are out of ideas huh," a user wrote.

A common criticism among the moviegoers is that film studios today are more interested in making sequels and spin-offs using existing IPs rather than creating original films.

"Disappointed that it's not called "I Still Remember What You Did 25 Summers Ago", especially if it's a direct sequel," joked another.

In terms of naming the films, the first one was I Know What You Did Last Summer, and the second was I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. So now, over 25 years later, shouldn’t the third be called I Still Remember What You Did 25 Summers Ago? This user sure has a point here.

Ah, the iconic scene from I Know What You Did Last Summer. Think Jennifer Love Hewitt will recreate it in the new sequel?

"Mother and father still eating 20+ years later," a user pointed.

Netizens are quite impressed by the performances of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., who look almost exactly the same even after more than 25 years. Someone really needs to uncover their secret!

"They better know what they did cause I already forgot 😭," commented another.

As this fan hilariously suggests, it's been so long since the first film that most of us don’t even know what we did last summer. Definitely time for a revisit!

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer is all set to bring back over 25 years of nostalgia, as the countdown begins for the iconic slasher film. It hits theaters worldwide on July 18.
