James Cameron has shown Avatar 3: Fire and Ash to some audiences, having caused considerable buzz before its release scheduled for December 19, 2025. According to the Canadian director, it's "maybe the best of the three so far."

Speaking with Stuff, Cameron states:

“I’ve shown it to a few selected people and the feedback has been it’s definitely the most emotional and maybe the best of the three so far. We’ll find out, you know, but I feel pretty good about it. And the work is exceptional from the actors. It’s pretty heart-wrenching in a good way.”

Social media never misses a chance to clown on something, and this was no different. Users went all in, roasting anything and everything that even looked Avatar-like.

One X user clapped back saying:

"we can't judge until we see james"

The user is treating this like a court case—innocent until proven mid.

One user warned:

"is it gonna have basically the same story as 1 and 2? the sky people want our mineral plot line may not work this time."

Relax, you talking like James Cameron personally wronged you.

A user roasted:

"I think it’s safe to say…we ALL have seen it…in the previous films 🍿"

Same blue people's problems.

Sharing a hilarious GIF, a user stressed:

“Maybe the best of the three”

This is the least burnt toast. Thanks.

A user joked:

"I don't know, I fell asleep during the second one"

The user took the ‘immersive experience’ too far.

A user thinks:

"It's going to be more boring than Avatar 2"

James Cameron is out here curing insomnia.

What do we know about Avatar 3: Fire and Ash?

Cameron explained that Fire and Ash will be more aggressive in style than its predecessors. He wants to tackle issues of moral grayness, telling Empire:

“Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She's hardened by that. She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil."
"One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be black-and-white simplistic. We’re trying to evolve beyond the ‘all humans are bad, all Na’vi are good’ paradigm.”

This is illustrated by the addition of new characters, such as Varang, the Ash Clan leader, played by Oona Chaplin.

Varang's character illustrates the plight of her people as she has had to suffer hardships that influence her actions and decisions, even those that can be seen as evil.

The film will also introduce the "Ash People," a more aggressive faction of Na'vi that contrasts with the peaceful Omatikaya and Metkayina clans seen in previous films, as per Game Rant.

This new clan is reportedly expected to challenge Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) in unprecedented ways, pushing the boundaries of their journey on Pandora.

Technical innovations and visual splendor

Aside from its storytelling aspirations, Fire and Ash vow to extend technological frontiers beyond its predecessors. Cameron has cited production efficiency gains, claiming that they have "doubled the number of shots finished at this stage" compared to Avatar: The Way of Water.

Cameron tells Empire:

“We have doubled the number of shots finished at this stage of the game than we had on movie two [and] the films are about equal length. So that puts us well ahead of the curve, which is something I’ve never, frankly, experienced before."
"The process is a little bit less nightmarish. We’re getting to the point where we are actually getting good at this.”

This development enables greater complex visual narration, with the new biomes and environments within Pandora's system being discovered.

The movie will have volcanic landscapes, with some of the film's most stunning scenery featuring spectacular landscapes of lava flows and burnt lands.
