A high-budget fan movie has overrun Tampa streets based on Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). The people of Tampa woke up to discover their city suspiciously resembling a GTA loading screen complete with green McLarens, Cybertrucks, and committed actors.
With the leaked video going viral on social media, fans can now see the scene up close. One of the film's cast members is a man who remarkably resembles Jason, the co-protagonist of Grand Theft Auto VI, who dumps police cars and causes the same type of mayhem.
Fans and the local community have been quite excited about this project because of how it resembles aspects of the game, which will be released in the fall of 2025.
This was a perfect opportunity for social media users to come up with their respective hilarious takes. One X (formerly Twitter) user, in a mic drop moment, stated:
"We got GTA 6 fan films before GTA 6!!! Laugh please ty"
Another user stated:
"Don’t doubt Rockstar Games"
One user reacted with a hilarious GIF:
Meanwhile, this one user went on to highlight:
"There’s like 5 people on that set that could’ve played a better Jason lmao."
A user commented:
"This is so random, who has the money for this lol?"
A user thinks:
"Yeah hollywood type of setup, its not a fan made, maybe when billionaire is that fan lol"
A user volunteered to verify and check for us all, saying:
"I might pull up lol it’s like 2 hours from me"
GTA film project
Local mod shop owner Jason Blount (not to be confused with GTA Jason) reportedly provided some of the high-end vehicles, as per Dexerto.
Film Tampa Bay has been keeping things hot on Instagram, posting explosions and action-shot teasers that look ripped directly from Rockstar's playbook.
Speculation has gone wild. Is Rockstar Games secretly behind it? Or is this just a highly dedicated fan effort with an endless pyrotechnics budget?
Either way, Tampa has never been more like Vice City in real life.
From Reddit rants to fan theories
As can be expected, the city has opinions. Some locals are delighted, making every street closure an impromptu movie cameo opportunity. Others are not so pleased.
Because while avoiding a McLaren during grocery shopping is intensely on-brand for GTA, it's less than ideal for arriving at work on schedule.
The shooting has opened up debates on how aspects of Tampa could be incorporated into the game's environment, with some fans proposing that Rockstar would include real locations in Vice City.
One of the biggest discussion points is that this operation could be linked to GTA 6's real setting. Since Rockstar is already hinting at a Florida-inspired map, the theory that Tampa could cameo in the game has only grown stronger.
If Vice City receives some expansion packs in the guise of real Florida locations, Tampa could be on the shortlist.
What does this have to do with GTA 6?

From fan films to trailer breakdowns frame by frame, the hype surrounding GTA 6 has never been higher.
Fans have been breaking down every aspect of the new GTA 6 trailer, revealing clues that hint at the possibility of there being more than Vice City to explore in the new game.
Others have pointed out what they think is another large city in the trailer that looks like Tampa, adding to speculation about its inclusion in the game.
The notion of adding different Florida locations to GTA 6 has been popular, with Orlando being mentioned as a possibility.
The excitement train has left the station, and it won't be slowing down anytime soon, regardless of whether this fan film from Tampa is a guerilla marketing ploy or just the best love letter to Grand Theft Auto ever made.
