The first look at Julia Garner's Silver Surfer has just dropped in all its reflective glory, sending fans into a tailspin. The Silver Surfer is a character that Marvel fans hold close to their hearts, sometimes alarmingly so, and the studio seems to have made the bold decision to cast Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal instead of going for the classic Norrin Radd in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The new poster for Silver Surfer has just dropped on April 17, 2025, and fans wasted no time stripping the lustrous shine off the character by trolling it into oblivion.

Fans react hilariously to Julia Garner's first look as Silver Surfer

As Julia surfs into the Marvel Universe, the possibilities for her character seem to be endless. Fans have been starving for a decent Fantastic Four adaptation for the longest time, and it seems like the upcoming film promises to fulfill all those expectations, and then some more.

For a moment, the hype around the trailer felt real before fans turned the celestial being's introduction into a meme fest. As the shiny new toy rolled into town, fans took the opportunity to poke fun at the character design, which frankly, is so lustrous it could blind a planet:

"Looks more like Tin Foil Surfer to me", joked one fan (via X / @FortKnoxCrypto)
"Why does it look like it was created only a year after Terminator 2?", quipped another (via X / @N7_Paul)
"There's no way this is suppossed to be impressive", mocked another fan (via X / @Commentary4us)

With the Silver Surfer's addition to the MCU, fans will now have a shiny new figure to be invested in. Will she rise above the odds and emerge as the unlikely hero of the franchise? Only time will tell. However, one thing is for sure: it would be hilarious to watch Silver Surfer saving the day by blinding Galactus with her lustre. Or how about a dance off with The Human Torch to claim the title of "the shiniest new object in town"? The possibilities are endless.

Of course, there are also the purists who are clutching onto their comic books in protest of Marvel casting a female Silver Surfer. This concept isn't new, as Shalla-Bal has been making appearances in the comics since the 60s. But the several fans blissfully ignored this fact and have been out there on their X timelines spelling DOOM for the upcoming movie:

"Another flop for Disney", predicted one fan (via X / @JoeySalads)
"Is her action figure being released straight to Ollie's?", quipped another

Doom or no doom, The Fantastic Four are indeed suiting up for Avengers: Doomsday, and the fanboy meltdown over a female Surfer is a hilarious saga of its own!

Julia Garner has an impressive body of work—her performances in Ozark and The Americans left the fans spellbound. The internet doesn't forget, and some fans were enthusiastic at the prospect of seeing her play the Silver Surfer. They just weren't so sure which version of Julia they were getting....

"I keep thinking shes going to sound like she did in The Ozark", joked one fan (via X / @LocalWvlf)

Julia Garner's first look as the Silver Surfer sparked a wave of hilarious reactions on social media. Even the fans' misplaced meltdowns and meme-fueled fury only go on to prove that The Fantastic Four: First Steps continues to grab the eyeballs. Let's just hope once the movie drops, these eyeballs are for all the right reasons!
