The Terrifier horror franchise seemed to come full circle with an unexpected vengeance, or at least that is speculation by the fans as news broke that Terrifier 4 is now official. If one doesn't know, let it be known that this is some kind of cult classic in the world of slasher horror, just synonymous with super gore-laden violence, courtesy of the infamous Art the Clown.
But the reason this development is considered particularly interesting is because of the mixed reaction it has created online. Everyone, be it horror buffs or casual moviegoers, seems to have an opinion on this. Some are excited to see the return of the grisly clown, while others question whether it's time to retire the series.
Why Terrifier 4 is going viral
But why is there so much fuss over Terrifier 4? It all began on X, where the announcement got a bevy of reactions, ranging from pure excitement through to sarcasm and a touch of dread.
Art the Clown, despite being the stuff of nightmares for many, still manages to hold dear to the hearts or nightmares of many. But what is really entertaining about these reactions is not just the excitement or fear, but the humor injected into this whole conversation.
"Time to let this movie go," one fan tweeted perfectly. As news spread, it became clear there's a loud segment of fans who think they've seen enough blood and guts to last a lifetime and they're ready to move on.
Yet, the very fact that the Terrifier franchise continues to push boundaries with each installment only fuels the conversation.
But now, some fan reactions because that's where it gets interesting. It's a fair statement to say that not everyone is in on the idea of a Terrifier 4. One such fan went to the extent of saying,
"Theater employees that had to clean up vomit from the last Terrifier rn,"
and honestly, probably how it did go for some viewers. It is little wonder that some couldn't hold it together with scenes this gruesome.
Then there’s the fan who tweeted, "I’m already scared!" Honestly, that’s the spirit. The Terrifier movies have made a name for themselves with their shocking and grotesque scenes, so it’s no surprise that fans are already bracing themselves for more nightmarish thrills.
Of course, not everyone was quite as excited. One simply replied, "Didn't really need another one."
This was seconded by a few more, one user adding, "They can keep it. That's ok."
It would appear that for some, the magic of Art the Clown and his brutal antics has finally worn off, and they're quite happy to leave it to the fans who really do care.
There is also a contingent that is just plain fed up with it: "When will it end?" Well, that's a fair question considering three films of Blood and Guts are enough to make even the most avid follower of the series wonder if the franchise peaked, or is it just prolonging the inevitable for shock value?
But no matter which side of the fence you fall on in the debate, one thing's for sure you can't look away from it. Love it, hate it, or are simply tired of it, the online discussions prove one thing: this franchise knows how to get people talking. The humor, fear, and utter disregard for filmmaking convention amount to one thing a viral sensation.
For now, it looks like Terrifier 4 is happening, and we’ll just have to wait and see if it manages to terrify us all over again or if it’s time for Art to finally retire. Until then, we’ll be over here laughing at the fan reactions, because, let’s face it, sometimes humor is the best way to cope with a horror franchise that just won’t quit.
