Beyoncé just did it again. At the 2025 Grammy Awards, she became the first Black woman to ever win Best Country Album, proving once and for all that Queen Bey can do whatever she wants.
As Taylor Swift read out Beyoncé’s name, instead of the characteristic poised, regal nod we expect from Bey, she hit us with the most meme-worthy reaction of the night—wide-eyed, hands thrown out in disbelief, in addition to "Wait, what?!" response.
The internet, however, exploded into a firestorm of reactions, memes, and jokes, because how else are we supposed to process such events?
Some folks were clowning that Beyoncé had the W locked in from the jump, while others were just here for the reaction memes.
As one X (formerly Twitter) user predicted:
"This will turn into a big meme."
A user joked: "girl she knew a week before hand."
A user went on to react with a GIF:
Meanwhile, a user mentioned: "Beyoncé gagged by her own excellence 😭😂"
A user commented: "LMFAO we just as shocked as her 😭"
A user asked: "Why is she acting like she ain't know she was gonna win."
One user wasted no time to fit it in a meme-worthy moment:
"When mom gets home and you forgot to defrost the chicken... 😂"
Yet another user chose to react with a GIF:
Beyoncé’s shocked reaction heard ‘round the world
When Taylor Swift called her name, Beyonce looked shocked—hands flung out, eyes wide, full-on disbelief.
Meanwhile, Blue Ivy was caught on camera practically nudging her mother toward the stage. “Mom, get up, you won.”
Once she regained her composure (kind of), Beyoncé took the stage and gave a speech. She said:
“I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album”.
“We worked so hard on it. I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just wanna encourage people to do what they’re passionate about and to stay persistent.”
“Wow, I’d like to thank my beautiful family, all of the artists that were collaborators. Thank you. This wouldn’t have been this album without you. I’d like to thank God again and my fans, and I still am in shock, so thank you so much for this honor.”
Breaking barriers
This wasn’t just another Grammy win. Beyoncé is the first Black woman to take home a Grammy for Best Country Album.
She was nominated with country heavyweights like Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, and Lainey Wilson.
She also snagged Best Country/Duo Performance for II Most Wanted with Miley Cyrus.
Taylor Swift presented the award for Best Country Album
If the history-making moment wasn’t enough, the universe threw in a bonus: Taylor Swift was the one handing Beyoncé the award.
This was Swift’s first time presenting at the Grammys in years.
Back in 2023, Swift had posted about Beyoncé attending her Eras Tour concert film premiere, writing:
“I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce’s influence. The way she’s taught me and every artist out here to break rules and defy industry norms. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility. She’s been a guiding light throughout my career and the fact that she showed up tonight was like an actual fairytale.”
