The DC Universe is growing, and at the forefront is a brand-new interpretation of the Caped Crusader. The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman, one who isn’t accompanied by a typical young hero in tights as a sidekick but by his own biological son, biological son, Damian Wayne.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently working on this revamped DC Universe. Screen Rant reports that the film is going ahead with a writer hired, though their name is being kept under wraps for now.

The Hollywood Reporter quoted Gunn as saying:

“Everybody knows I love Batman and it’s important to me so I’m working very closely with the writer on Brave and the Bold.”

Director Andy Muschietti is on board and will get to see the finished script first.

As expected, not everyone is on board—so they let the roasts fly. With so many back-to-back updates, an X user, probably overwhelmed, declared:

"This movie isn’t happening"

With Gunn saying that he is "working very closely with the writer", a user put it aptly:

Another user added:

“Writer has been hired” you mean James Gunn hired himself lol"

A user commented:

"Brave and the bold? Is this a soap opera?"

Some fans are already frustrated with the slow timeline, while others feel the constant Batman reboots are overkill.

A user took a jab, stating:

"Only took 2 years after the initial announcement. I'd rather they just not say anything until production is truly gearing up. At this point, it won't come out until 2027."

One user thinks:

"Too many Batman movies has diluted the quality, should've just left it alone after Nolan's trilogy."

Casting: Who's going to be wearing the bat ears?

Filming for The Brave and the Bold was delayed due to industry strikes. However, that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning.

Among the suspected names of Batman are Jensen Ackles, Richard Madden, Michael Fassbender, and Jacob Elordi.

James Gunn has already shut down the possibility of Jensen Ackles. As for the others, speculation continues.

Fan-generated posters and concept art have even imagined actors like Brandon Sklenar as Bruce Wayne and Casper Knopf as Damian Wayne. But for now, these remain just internet theories.

DC Studios has yet to make any official casting announcements.

The biggest takeaway is that this film will introduce a brand-new Batman into the DC Universe, meaning Robert Pattinson’s emo detective remains in his own continuity.

His The Batman films exist within an alternate Elseworlds timeline, allowing Matt Reeves to continue his Gotham saga without interfering with the overall DCU.

Peter Safran made this clear, as quoted by Screen Rant:

"We love him, but we've got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. It's imperative. That's the plan for The Brave and the Bold."

In The Brave and the Bold, Batman isn’t just dealing with Gotham’s usual crime wave—he also has a sword-wielding complication in the form of his son, Damian Wayne.

The film draws inspiration from Grant Morrison’s comic book series, which explored the troubled father-son relationship between Bruce and Damian.

And when your child has been raised by the League of Assassins, parenting challenges take on a whole new meaning.

Damian’s arrival disrupts the traditional Batman-and-Robin dynamic, creating tension for Bruce as he juggles his two toughest roles: being Gotham’s Dark Knight and a father trying to teach his son that crime-fighting doesn’t always require a body count.

How old is this Batman, anyway?

James Gunn has hinted that Batman will be slightly older than Superman in this universe, but don't go chiseling numbers into rock just yet.

In an interview with CBR, Gunn explained:

"People are speculating about both ages. All I ever said was Superman was younger than in his forties and Batman MIGHT be a couple years older than Superman."

Whoever lands the role will need to embody both the physicality of Gotham’s greatest detective and the emotional complexity of playing Bat-dad.
