Just when we thought the angry birds had finally chilled out, they came back, still furious. The latest addition to the franchise, Angry Birds 3, has been officially confirmed, set to hit the theatres on January 29, 2027. However, unlike its predecessors, the third instalment in the animated series is flying under a new banner. Paramount Pictures will be distributing the film, taking over from Sony, who had handled the first two.

Naturally, the announcement has prompted the internet to do what it does best in such situations—raise a collective eyebrow and roast the party in question. Many have questioned the relevance of Angry Birds in the age of immersive cinematic experiences (that use AI and VR headsets), asking why Angry Birds is getting a third movie.

Angry Birds Returns (Again): The Internet Wasn’t Ready

Although it might be that the return of Angry Birds to the big screen is just about making another family flick, the announcement post made on April 8 sent waves of reactions on X (formerly Twitter), not because people were excited, but because they were confused. Or amused. Or maybe both.

Below is the comment that sums up the general sentiment of netizens on the matter:

“This gaming franchise is pretty dead though, right?”

Ouch. That one hit like a red bird onto a glass window.

Netizens quickly flocked (pun absolutely intended) on X to poke fun at the news and express their bewilderment. And of course, the reactions didn't stop at being mere opinions—they were pure comedy. In fact, it didn’t take long for these reactions to spiral into a viral mess of memes, sarcastic comments, and straight-up general sentiment of crises about cinema.

One user expressed the general confusion felt by the masses:

"Who asked for this?"

Valid question. Somewhere, a studio exec in a boardroom is probably replying, “My six-year-old nephew asked for Angry Birds. That’s who.”

Another user joked:

"2027 is about to be packed."

Yes, packed with sequels, reboots, and whatever this is.

One parent chimed in with a subtle cry for help:

"Oh snap. Don’t tell my kiddo lol. Jk."

You can almost feel the panic in the comment because they know that now they’ll be dragged to watch it. In 3D. With popcorn that costs $15.

Another user dropped this gem:

"Them birds still mad after all these years???"

Honestly, same. At this point, they’ve been angry for longer than most millennials have held stable jobs.

And of course, the film industry shade was strong:

"So much money wasted in the cinema industry."

Of course, not every animated film can be Spider-Verse. But surely there are better ways to spend millions than on another round of birds vs pigs.

The sentiment online has been clear: nostalgia isn’t always enough, especially when the original hype was over flinging flightless birds at structures on the novel touch-sensitive screen in 2010.

Sure, Angry Birds 3 might do well with kids and fans of the franchise, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But based on internet feedback, it seems like most people don't even know much about the first two films, let alone ask for a third one.

Still, the memes are worth it. The internet may not want this movie, but it definitely needed the laughs.

So, buckle up. Whether you love them or hate them, Angry Birds are coming back. And this time, they might just be mad enough to break through box office expectations. Or not.

Either way, bring your snacks.
