You’ve got to admire the confidence. Before a single snap was taken, Eagles fans had already called it: the Chiefs were done. Buried. Finito. And to make it official, they had a whole casket—yes, a literal coffin—decked out with Chiefs jerseys, Patrick Mahomes' face, and other Kansas City players slapped on it.

Additionally, they put a Chiefs jersey inside the box probably as their final sendoff item to the Kansas City fans.

The Kansas City team found itself on the losing end when the Philadelphia Eagles delivered on their promises to win. At Super Bowl LIX New Orleans, the Eagles secured a strong 40-22 victory. Hence the casket wasn’t just for show.

Social media was absolutely losing it. On X (formerly Twitter) suayrez stated:

The Philadelphia Eagles executed a comprehensive defensive effort to stop the Kansas City Chiefs offense while ending any prospects for Patrick Mahomes to become a three-time champ. Their statistical analysis indicated a 64.7% probability of winning the competition so they successfully confirmed this prediction on the field.

Key players who brought the heat

Philadelphia Eagles:

Jalen Hurts: The Eagles QB provided 221 passing yards with two touchdowns and completed a rushing score. He was honored with the Super Bowl MVP in the Super Bowl LIX.

Defense: The level of defensive suppression during this game should have likely caused Mahomes to experience nightmares.

The Eagles' defense defeated Mahomes six times through tackles while earning three successful takeaways. Cooper DeJean celebrated his 22nd birthday by intercepting a pass and returning it for a touchdown alongside Josh Sweat who achieved 2.5 sacks during the game.

Saquon Barkley: Saquon Barkley delivered steady offense by rushing for 57 yards during the game.

Kansas City Chiefs:

Patrick Mahomes: The guy tried. Really, he did. But with the Eagles’ defense breathing down his neck, it was a long night. He took six sacks (a career-high) but still managed to throw two late-game touchdowns to Xavier Worthy.

Travis Kelce: It took until the third quarter for him to get a single catch. That’s not exactly the stat line you want when Taylor Swift is probably watching.

How it all went down?

The scoreboard reached 24-0 by halftime as the Chiefs experienced total confusion on the field. The defense controlled every field section while Mahomes struggled with his vision and the Chiefs stayed off-balance throughout the game.

Some game-defining moments:

Cooper DeJean’s pick-six: A perfect birthday gift for himself, a nightmare for Mahomes.

Zack Baun’s interception: Another brutal blow that set the Eagles up for more points.

Jalen Hurts being unstoppable: Hurts led an unstoppable performance by both passing precise accurate throws and delivering crushing runs against the Chiefs defense throughout the entire game.

The Chiefs only managed to establish their offensive rhythm after the outcome of the game had already been determined.

Super Bowl history made

This was the second time these two teams met in the Super Bowl, with the Chiefs taking the first win in LVII after a tight 38-35 battle. Some historic stats:

The Eagles' defense recorded six sacks on Mahomes, the most he’s ever taken in a game.

Mahomes also threw his first-ever playoff pick-six after 297 postseason passes without an interception.

And notably, Donald Trump became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl.
