With all the shiny DCU news making the rounds, fans of The Penguin felt left out because The Penguin Season 2 might not be coming our way anytime soon. In a recent DC Studios soiree, co-CEOs dropped tantalizing releases about animated shows and upcoming projects, but Colin Farrell's nefarious piece of art got nothing but cryptic silence.

While the Caped Crusader continues to thrive, Oswald Cobblepot might be stuck in streaming limbo. Is The Penguin Season 2 being iced, or is it merely put into cold storage for maximum shock?

DC gives and takes away, and this time, it is The Penguin fans who are left hanging. So until we get a real update, we'll just be here, squinting at press releases and saying, "He deserved better."

In an interview that was more riddle than not, Warner Bros. TV chief Channing Dungey made it clear that it is a never-say-never situation, shorthand for "Don't hold your breath, but don't give up hope either."

Dungey says it's "definitely a possibility," given that Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, and the team are free; if fate, calendars, and several lunar phases cooperate.

Thus, the fans are left in suspense for the moment, not knowing whether Oswald Cobblepot will be back or not, a lovely chaotic one-season phenomenon. In an interview with Deadline, Dungey said:

"The Penguin is one of those things where — and it’s interesting, because when you talk with everyone involved, everyone is interested in possibly revisiting those characters and doing more — it was very much designed as a limited series. But I would never say never."

He continued:

"I think if we can get the creative stars to line up in the right way, and the talent is available — because we certainly wouldn’t want to do this without Colin [Farrell] and Cristin [Milioti] and that team — I would say it’s definitely a possibility, but there’s nothing in the works at the moment."

As soon as the news came out, someone made good use of their X account and commented:

"Penguin probably canceled it himself out of pettiness"

If any character would cancel their own series just because the catering on the imported fish had expired or someone called him "short" one time too often, it would be Oswald Cobblepot.

He didn't rise to the top of Gotham's criminal hierarchy by being emotionally stable. This is the exact type of villainy that is accompanied by passive-aggressive power plays and a grandstand exit.

As predicted, the internet did what it does best: spun into a mess of beautiful responses, speculation, and outright stupidity. The Penguin fans seized the updates and went wild with them like Gotham rat-hordes hiding a secret.

Some cried, some meme-ed, and others just screamed at the universe with hopes that Colin Farrell would come calm the waters.

If it was denial, delusion, or unadulterated madness, the fandom served it up perfectly. So, in good old dramatic Cobblepot style, let's jump beak-first into the insane, funny, and really emotional responses of the fans who took this possible cancellation way too personally.

Netizens react as The Penguin season 2 left in the lurch

The comments section soon became a comedic war zone, with users riffing on the potential fate of The Penguin. Some joked that the show was merely "on a long vacation," while others speculated that Oswald Cobblepot himself had yanked the plug out of sheer spite.

The humor ran as freely as the theories, with fans spinning their take on what could come next, even if it was all just wishful thinking:

"Because why would we give the fans more of what they want," a user @TarantulaGraham hilariously commented.
"That universe is done. Too bad but seems like all in on the DCU," another user @LEXthePEX commented.
"Did Oswald unplug the whole show out of sheer spite because someone called him a budget Joker??," a netizen @Jacqueline12__ sarcastically expressed.

Some people even made comparisons of the possible release of The Penguin with Batman 2, joking that it could show up before the real Batman sequel, throwing an unexpected spin on the topic.

The comments were soon flooded with off-the-wall theories and good-natured jokes:

"Will still probably get that before The Batman 2," a user @AdamBrimson hilariously commented.
"They haven’t even finished the Batman script," another user @DonatelloThaGr8 hilariously commented.
"No shiiiiiiiit… it ended right where we would have Batman part 2," a netizen @Solekefeufajr sarcastically commented.

The peanut gallery did not wait, inundating the comments section with jokes, sarcasm, and whatever their minds immediately ran to. Some threw in one-liners with no apparent logic.

"maybe it will be like the combeack and take ten years between seasons," a user @mask_bastard hilariously commented.
"I think they waiting for Batman 2 movie," another user @PopcornPost_ hilariously commented.
"Colin Farrell said he hated that suit and he never wanted to wear that shit again. lol but that’s before the awards and accolades from the show!," another netizen sarcastically commented.
"They are not touching this universe until batman 2 comes out... So never," a netizen @P1nk52 sarcastically wrote.

When the Bat and the Bird finally collide

Reportedly, Matt Reeves hasn't even turned in the script for The Batman Part II yet, so Gotham's biggest soap opera lingers in limbo. In the meantime, everyone's out here drawing lines between things like a conspiracy nut with a corkboard, utterly convinced that The Batman and The Penguin are heading for one great, eyeliner-fueled collision.

It's becoming the on-screen equivalent of a slow-burning situationship, high stakes, long wait times, and nobody wanting to commit to a timeline. One broods in darkness, the other schemes in fur coats, and they'll meet in Part II… if only the script sees the light of the day.

What would be the plot of The Penguin, Season 2?

If The Penguin gets a season two, we could have Oswald Cobblepot going into full boss mode, staking his claim as Gotham's top dog on the street level of crime. It wouldn't be smooth sailing, though. There'd be other gangs, corrupt politicians, and residual Riddler fanboys (who use him as Gotham's mascot for moral corruption) all flying in like vultures.

With Batman possibly off the grid following Part II, Oswald Cobblepot might be left alone to guide the foundering ship that is Gotham. The city's anarchy won't wait, newer villains such as Scarecrow or Hush might come out of the woodwork, compelling Oz to make backroom deals or fight them head-on.

But beneath the turf battles and politics, there's a richer narrative in the works: how long can one man keep a falling empire intact without losing himself along the way?

The Penguin Season 2 might explore the mind of Gotham's beloved umbrella-wielding gangster as he balances becoming an unassailable mastermind or a cautionary tale consumed by his ambition.

One thing's certain: it'll be sheer, glorious chaos.

So for now, The Penguin Season 2 is as real as Oswald's trust issues, mythical, sensational, and nowhere to be found. Until then, we wait, flapping in the Gotham wind like a mobster with nothing on the docket.
