Christopher Nolan's film adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey will include scenes shot in Scotland and Ireland. Much of the filming will take place at historically significant sites to the epic poem, such as Sicily's Favignana (which is also called "goat island") and Morocco's Aït Benhaddou.

Variety reported that:

"As Nolan has built a fanbase with his care for practical effects and sets, it’s no surprise that sources have confirmed that the film is likely using some of its budget for shooting on the Sicily islands."
"Other announced locations for the film include the U.K., Morocco, Scotland and Ireland, making “The Odyssey” a global shoot."

We don't yet know precisely which scenes will be shot in Scotland and Ireland. But these countries are renowned for their dramatic landscapes.

These would be suitable locations for Odysseus' battles with supernatural beings or perilous journeys on land and sea.

But let us concentrate on the major point here: the Internet. Here, nothing escapes the grasp of humor.

This one is no different. Although it might be stated in good earnest, users are making fun of it.

From individuals teasing that they wished real Greece existed for Nolan to film at to users mocking other locations, it just takes a minute for social media to get fretful about a project.

Christopher Nolan chooses Scotland and Ireland for The Odyssey — fans have thoughts

Some of the scenes were filmed in Greece, too, but now that Ireland is part of it as well, people on the internet are joking about it.

Some are kidding that they wish the "actual" Greece was still around so Nolan could have shot there.

Others are snarkily commenting that it makes sense to shoot in Ireland—because clearly that's where ancient Greece was... sarcastically, of course.

A user @NoraGirl19 sarcastically noted:

"Damn, if only actual Greece existed..."

Another user @Trill_Hackett5 added:

"Ah! Just where Ancient Greece used to be."

A user @RonW57 teased, saying:

"I remember that part of the Odyssey, where Odysseus and his crew visit Ireland and Scotland, to get back home."

Yet another user, @solarsystemsith, quipped:

"The odyssey is so cool I wish Greece was real."

Some users came up with even funnier ideas, suggesting that they would shoot the scene where Odysseus travels to the underworld in Australia.

Others just playfully joked that they didn't know Odysseus or Outis went as far as on his adventure.

A user @TrueDmitryI jokingly said:

"Next odyssey movie news: Christopher Nolan has traveled to Australia, to film the scene where Odysseus goes to hell."

Yet another user, @Mercuri70082897, thinks:

"Homer would be rolling in his tomb."

One user @Sof_Everlasting commented:

"Didn't know Outis went that far."

And, naturally, the users couldn't help mentioning Cillian Murphy. The users jokingly remarked that they actually know a guy who lives in Ireland, and he would be ideal for the role.

A user @JillianChili stated:

"You know who lives in Ireland……"

One user, @saladacomolasal, went on to say:

"I'm not from there, but we both know who is from there and who would be perfect to be in the cast. His name begins with C and ends with illian Murphy, I just saying hehe 🥲"

Another user @ali_feron mentioned:

"There’s this one actor that Nolan works with that lives in Ireland…"

The film has an extensive cast, featuring Matt Damon as Odysseus. Some of the other stars featured in the film include Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, and Tom Holland.
