Kanye West, or as he now prefers to be called, Ye, has once more yanked the online version of storming out of a room then bursting back in after a few moments. The rapper reinstated his X (previously Twitter) account following a temporary deactivation period that only took long enough for the internet to catch its breath before getting ready for the impending crash.

This follows a series of inflammatory tweets that generated huge outrage and raised concerns over the platform's moderation guidelines.

On February 13, 2025, Ye's account was restored just three days after it was deactivated. On returning, users were greeted with a content warning on Ye's page that it might contain potentially sensitive content.

Interestingly, all of the incendiary posts from his prior rant had been wiped clean from his main feed, though traces of controversy lingered in the replies like the remnants of an ill-advised late-night tweet.

One X (formerly Twitter) user stated:

"The internet just got 10x louder. Popcorn’s ready."

Another user added:

"Kanye first post gonna have us like"

Another user stated:

"Wow I didn’t think he’d back so soon"

Sharing a fun reaction picture, a user mentioned:

"Elon rn"

A user went on to react with an iconic meme:

A user poked fun at the rapper stating:

"I wonder who came back... kanye or ye lol."

A user stated:

"Either he landed from his high or he is about to turn it up a notch higher 💀"

Background of the Ye controversy

Ye's recent behavior on X has been characterized by a stream of anti-Semitic, misogynistic, and racist comments. His rant included outrageous remarks such as claiming "I AM A NAZI" and a strange show of admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Ye ended his meltdown with a sincere thank-you remark to Elon Musk for upholding his freedom of speech, apparently unaware that freedom of speech is not the same as freedom from repercussions.

After this tirade, his account was suspended, and there was speculation as to whether he had voluntarily left or whether the site took action against him because of the content of his posts.

In his last messages prior to deactivation, Ye explained that his time on X was "cathartic," comparing it to an "Ayahuasca trip," and thanked the energy and attention he received from his fans.

As much as the public figures and social media influencers criticized him, he was unruffled, remarking that he felt content after articulating his ideas.

Reactivation of Ye's account

The reinstatement has sparked controversy surrounding X's hate speech and free speech policies. Critics state that permitting Ye's return to the platform conveys a worrisome signal about the impact of disseminating hate speech over the internet.

Musk, always the bringer of digital anarchy, had once labeled Ye's account as NSFW (Not Safe for Work), a rare designation for a user account that, in principle, should have been labeled as Not Safe for Society.

Reaction and implications

Celebrity names such as David Schwimmer and Piers Morgan have weighed in on Ye's history of behavior and what it has meant for standards of acceptable hate speech in society.

In the meantime, he found time amidst his rant for another swipe at Taylor Swift.

This time, his beef was with her attending the Super Bowl, inexplicably suggesting that her music is somehow damaging to Black men.

The fraught relationship between the two artists dates back to the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards incident.
