HBO teen drama powerhouse Euphoria is about to enter season three, which is revealed to be probably the last of the series. According to HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi (via Deadline), the show might actually be concluding after the current season. Of course, nothing's set in stone until the last camera stops rolling but the discussions have been focused on this being the conclusion of the show.
The third season is promised to bring us beautifully messy arcs with a satisfying bow. We've been promised closure—whether that'll be Rue finally getting her break, or Cassie weeping in an even more melodramatic setting, we'll find out.
Social media reactions meanwhile have been sidesplitting. One X (formerly Twitter) user cheekily stated:
"the cast is already middle-aged"
Another user stated:
"I confess. I've only watched this show through tik tok clips..."
A user reacted with a hilarious ironic GIF:
A user mentioned:
"I guess it's time to make some more memes about Rue's iconic scenes... Goodbye, Euphoria 😂"
A user joked:
"if it isn't the next one is gonna be set in a retirement home 😭"
A user humorously lamented:
"I don’t know much about this movie so I can’t think of a funny comment 😔"
A comment read:
"It would take eight years for them to start filming season 4 anyway 😭"
Another comment read:
"Everyone is like 40 now so yeah"
Production challenges for Euphoria Season 3
It hasn't been an easy ride to Euphoria Season 3. The 2023 Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike caused significant delays and rewrites, throwing production into disarray. The comeback of the show was then clouded by the tragic death of Angus Cloud (Fezco).
Despite all of this, cameras are rolling, and HBO is eyeing a 2026 launch.
The delays haven't been logistically driven alone, either.
Behind the scenes, reported discussions have been fiery, with showrunner Sam Levinson rewriting the script to make sure the final season provides the emotional depth and visual storytelling fans have come to expect.
What's new in season 3 of Euphoria?
Season 3 will feature a time jump, moving the characters from high school into young adulthood. The transition promises to explore new themes relevant to their shifting identities and experiences.
Returning cast members such as Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi, with significant absences including Barbie Ferreira and the late Angus Cloud.
HBO is promising a season full of emotional complexity, character development, and (we assume) at least one ridiculously over-the-top montage sequence.
What happens when the protective bubble of high school pops? How do they navigate their ambitions, relationships, and demons in a world that no longer treats them like children?
What is Euphoria about?
Euphoria depicts a highly complicated story revolving around a group of high school students struggling with deeply personal social issues.
Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, is the primary character in the show. Rue is a young woman facing the hurdles of addiction and mental illness. Along with choosing the sober life, Rue is also trying to connect with the world which seems too much to bear at times.
Season 1 set the stage: addiction, love, identity crises, trauma, and enough glitter to blind a small town.
Season 2 went even deeper into the demons of the characters. We saw Rue's addiction spiral, Cassie threw her entire reputation in the trash for Nate, and Lexi staged a play that reflects the lives of her friends, leading to revelations and confrontations.
Now, with Season 3 advancing the timeline, we're leaving high school halls and entering whatever new disasters await these characters in adulthood.
Season 3 is said to be about the emotional development of the characters as they enter adulthood.
