Is Cillian Murphy really about to apparate onto our screens as a Harry Potter character? If rumors are to be believed, the answer to that is a definite yes. Channing Dungey, the Warner Bros TV boss, has fanned the flames of speculation once again with a glorious non-answer. When asked about Cillian Murphy's possible involvement in the Harry Potter TV reboot, she gave a wry smile and said:
“I have no comment, no comment, no comment.”
We are guessing that she must've read fan pieces asking for Cillian Murphy to be cast in the show. The fallout from the statement was a sight to behold as the internet went wild with speculation.
Cillian Murphy's possible casting in Harry Potter sends fans into a frenzy
Ever since a TV reboot was announced for the beloved franchise, the clamor for Ciliian Murphy to be cast in the show has been growing- it has now ballooned to reach mythic proportions. Amid the rumors swirling on the internet, Channing Dungey's recent non-statement has only convinced the fans that the casting is a near-certainty.
Fans have been speculating wildly on social media about why Channing felt the need to say 'No comment' three times. After all, one would've been sufficient to make her point, right? Netizens celebrated the fact that she didn't shut down the rumors outright and suggested that something fishy is definitely in the works:
"That’s a yes but she legally can’t say it", joked one fan (via X / @szaseiji).
"What do they expect her to say? Do they expect her to go 'oh sure'", quipped another (via X / @LukeFlux1).
Within hours of the news dropping in, the internet went ablaze with memes and GIFs welcoming Cillian Murphy to the Potterverse. X turned into a warzone of speculation as suddenly, every post was turned into a conspiracy theory. The madness reached its peak when one fan poked fun at the absurdity of the situation:
"From Peaky Blinders to No-Nosey Finders."
If the rumors do come true, seeing Thomas Shelby trade his nostrils for Voldemort's ruggedly devilish charms is going to be hilarious to see.
Channing Dungey, in her refusal to engage in the speculation, probably just wanted to give a diplomatic answer and be on her way home. Little did she know that fans would take her three magical repititions of "no comment” to their heart so much that it'll spark a full-blown meltdown. Potterheads had a field day on social media with their fan-castings, as they ran wild with their imaginations:
"It’s 2025, f*ck if he should be hermione", declared one fan, sending the internet into raptures (via X / @Leakyfaucetdo).
"Peak casting would have been this dude as Voldemort, Adam Driver as Snape, and the kid from Minecraft movie as Harry Potter LOL", another fan chimed in (via X / @brandominoefect).
"He would have been a brilliant Snape", quipped another (via X / @War_Lizard).
Amid the mass hysteria, one fan not only rejected the TV series reboot but also rejected the idea of progress itself. With classic apathy, he declared:
"I already own the first eight movies on Blu-ray. I’m not starting over."
If history has taught us anything, it is that when studios refuse to deny something, it’s usually because they’re already doing it. Perhaps they’re biding their time, waiting for the perfect moment to strike, or maybe Channing was just trolling all of us. Either way, one thing is clear: Cillian Murphy getting cast in the Harry Potter series would certainly break the internet and he'd be an uber-popular choice.
The coming months will give us a clearer picture, but until then, Warner Bros should expect more chaos and speculation coming their way!
