If waiting for GTA 6 were a heist, fans would have already invested years casing the joint, scheming their getaway, and debating whether to come in loud or quiet. But Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick says Rockstar Games isn't about to give away too many secrets too early.
Strauss Zelnick is aware that the GTA 6 hype is off the charts, but don't count on Rockstar spilling the beans prematurely. With a Fall 2025 release already confirmed but no new trailers since December 2023, some fans are sweating like they just survived a five-star chase.
But Strauss Zelnick is adamant that it's all according to plan - so we should all calm down and take a step away from the tin foil conspiracy bulletin boards. Zelnick, when he was asked about the release date of GTA 6 in a recent interview with the Wall Street Week with Bloomberg Television, said:
"The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I have ever seen for an entertainment property. And I have been around the block a few times and I have been in every entertainment business there is, and we want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement. And we do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance. And we found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation. I don't always get it right, but that's what we trying to do."
As soon as the news of GTA 6's marketing strategy came out, someone took to their X account and commented:
"2 years more"
When Rockstar Games announced a Fall 2025 release window for GTA 6, fans were quick to understand what exactly that meant - two more years of waiting. The countdown is longer than a five-star police chase, and since no new trailers of GTA 6, everybody is getting impatient.
But as per Strauss Zelnick, all that is part of the plan - so strap up, it's going to be a long ride.
The GTA 6 hype train keeps chugging along the tracks but with a Fall 2025 release window, some fans are starting to feel like they're crawling behind an NPC traveling at 10 mph in traffic.
The wait's getting so long that some players might just replay GTA San Andreas again - on a toaster - before launch day even arrives.
But don't fret, Strauss Zelnick tells us that Rockstar's marketing strategy is all about waiting. Let's now look at how the internet is responding to this news (spoiler: badly).
Netizens have reacted as Take-Two is keeping GTA 6’s release date a mystery
Some of the fans made the news into pure comedy, dropping memes and jokes quicker than a getaway car in GTA Online. Others filled the comments with reactions that could easily be side quests in the Rockstar Games universe:
"that actually builds less anticipation lmao. if i knew the release date id be way more hyped," a user @CelticsGotNext hilariously commented.
" "maintain anticipation" bro we’ve been anticipating since obama was in office," another user @debayo_xx hilariously commented.
"they’re drip-feeding us like we’re victorian orphans asking for more gruel," a netizen @_littlerobin_1 sarcastically expressed.
There are people here for the news, and then there are others. They're simply here to make the most deranged comments conceivable. Whether it's jokes, one-liners, or absolute mayhem, the GTA 6 hype train does not have brakes - and neither do the responses:
"I hope it flops at this point," a user @lasantarealidad commented.
"My only expectation is to be alive in 3 years when it launches on PC," a user @Majorir hilariously commented.
"anticipation" Or to explain it in technical terms: "that way nobody can complain if it takes longer," a netizen @the_MuschiKatZ sarcastically wrote.
At this juncture, waiting for GTA 6 is a side mission we all inadvertently took on. But whether the fans are panicking, memeing, or simply commenting for the sake of it, one thing's certain - Rockstar Games has us all in a real-life patience simulator, and Strauss Zelnick is the last boss.
