On November 29, 2024, Hailee Steinfeld, beloved as Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Verse movies and admired for her singing talent, broke the internet with an announcement: she’s engaged to NFL quarterback Josh Allen. But as fans gushed love and congratulations her way, the twist was served by Shameik Moore, the voice behind Spider-Verse’s Miles Morales. His reaction to the news is possibly one of the biggest surprises of the day—and social media could not get enough.

Shameik Moore’s emotional post

Shortly after Steinfeld’s engagement news went viral, Moore posted a cryptic tweet:

"There’s still more people to meet. More opportunities to come. And more chances to try. Live, learn, apply."

Fans quickly made the link – or created one where there wasn’t. To many, Moore’s post seemed like an attempt to confess feelings to Steinfeld.

Some were puzzled, wondering whether such a reaction was a coping mechanism of the news, while others concluded it was by chance. Anyway, it did not take long until the internet responded and made a reflective post go viral.

The troll begins

The trolling began immediately. Moore’s perceived sorrow was a source of memes on social media that included only the slightest twinge of empathy. Quips like “Bro crashing out over Hailee I can't blame him” filled feeds.

As the jokes stacked, one user stated:

"Honestly bro I understand your pain, you'll get through this lol."
Another user joked: "Shameik Moore bout to give us his best Miles Morales performance."
A user commented: "See you at the gym big dawg."
"The next press tour gonna be awkward as hell. Can't wait", a user mentioned.

Damage control gone awry

During the confusion, Moore tried to set the record straight. He posted a follow-up claiming ignorance of Steinfeld’s engagement:

"Had no idea Hailee is engaged! That’s amazing. I’m here reflecting on my 2024 goals that are rolling over into 2025. God’s timing."

This would have probably been enough to put this story to rest, but the post was deleted, hence stoking the fire. The audience regarded this as if Moore could not contain the reactions and perhaps delete the post altogether.

Later, in another post, Moore vented his frustrations:

"Also crazy what y’all decide to engage with when I post."

Replying to his post, a user posted a GIF, writing:

"But we know who you’re not engaging with."

By 1:43 a.m., hours after the internet had turned his situation into a meme, he was still at it. His late-night post read:

"Y’all been twisting my words and f—– wit my name for years now."

Instead of lessening the attacks on the storm, these attempts at it appeared only to fuel the mockery more.

A user commented: "You guys bouta be the reason across the spider verse gets delayed even more."

The verdict? Social media wins again

It looked like Hailee Steinfeld just wanted to share her happiness while turning into the internet-centric show, in which Shameik Moore surely is the star. Whether his original tweet was heartfelt, coincidental, or just poorly timed, one thing is certain: the Spider-Verse fandom took this and spun it into one of the funniest jokes of all time.

While Steinfeld and Allen are happily sharing their engagement news, Moore may take a break from social media– or join the fun of memes. In fact, we have learned from Miles Morales that no setback is definitive; it can only be the beginning of another great adventure.
