Well, let's just say the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man got a makeover. Venom is a classic comic book character. It is a sentient alien symbiote that changes hosts and exists in a semi-liquid web-like form.

Interestingly, the liquidy symbiote made its first appearance as a living alien costume in The Amazing Spider-Man comics. We also saw it in the third Spider-Man movie from Sam Raimi trilogy titled Spider-Man 3. Spiderman himself was Venom's first host which later got transferred to Eddie Brock.
