As the impending announcement of the Avengers: Doomsday cast took over the internet, there was one piece of news that flew under the radar: Simu Liu is back to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in the much-anticipated movie. After his heroics in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, this marks Simu's second appearance in the Marvel franchise.

Fans react hilariously as Simu Liu reprises his role as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday

The last time Simu Liu was seen in the Marvel franchise, he delivered a performance so power-packed that he turned a relatively obscure comic book character into a household name. It's been 4 long years since we last saw him in the Marvel Universe, and his casting announcement feels like a triumphant return from a long vacation.

Fans have long awaited Shang-Chi's return, and the internet’s already losing its mind over this announcement. Being as chronically online as he is, it came as no surprise when he became the first Marvel actor to respond to the announcement when he humorously gave a nod to the end of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings:

*Pokes head out of karaoke booth*, joked the Shang-Chi star (via X / @SimuLiu)

Others also joined in the fun as his comments section became a meme-fest:

"Let’s hope he still has his voice after singing Hotel California for 4 years straight", joked one fan (via X / @sebanatic5000)
"How many songs were you singing in the karaoke booth @SimuLiu!!! You were missed brotha!", quipped another (via X / @AndreSaintAlbin)
"Simu: “I’m just here singing karaoke, and now they need me to save the universe again”, commented another fan (via X / @uwuimatofu)

As Liu steps back into the role of Shang-Chi, fans can't help but wonder how he will fit into the Avengers' chaotic family dynamic. But they were confident that with his unique blend of charm and martial arts prowess, Simu would make it work somehow and really get his moment to shine. The news was met with much adulation from the fans who were jumping up and down at the prospect:

"Marvel finally remembered that he exists", remarked one user, crying tears of joy on social media (via X / @Asensii20)

One fan's reaction (@duolingocovers) took the cake for hilarity as he shed light on the absurd reality we are living in. The user pointed out that we are about to see the quintessential Ken doll dropping his act and get to playing the uber-serious martial artist:

"Ain't that the guy from barbie", joked the fan.

We demand an inquiry to know if this is something that is happening across multiverses or if we are the only ones being subjected to this hilarity! Either way, Simu Liu knows how to embrace both sides of his personality and is probably the only guy who can go from accessorizing Barbie’s convertible to accessorizing Doctor Doom’s face in an instant.

Simu Liu's long-anticipated return to the Marvel franchise is a win for comedy lovers everywhere. In a world where magic and high-tech suits reign supreme, the other Avengers' reactions to watching a guy drop in with nothing but two sticks and his unshakable confidence.

As the countdown begins for the next iteration of the franchise, we really hope that Simu Liu gets plenty of screen time and becomes the guy who spells doom for our resident villain, Dr. Doom!
