Plans for a Saw XI have reportedly been chopped. Originally slated for a September 27, 2024 release, the movie's production stalled in January 2024 with the reason being those in charge couldn't see eye to eye on...well, anything.
The latest entry into the horror behemoth has now been labeled "totally dead" by Bloody Disgusting who broke the news.
Bloody Disgusting reported:
“Everything went sideways in January 2024 … the producers started fighting. While one producer attempted to plow forward with the film, the other put up roadblocks.”
Lionsgate, the studio overseeing the franchise, apparently decided to play spectator instead of referee. With no mediator in sight, the production remained in limbo until it was eventually pronounced DOA.
Even Tobin Bell’s enthusiasm for donning his John Kramer persona again wasn’t enough to keep the project alive. Director Kevin Greutert’s anticipated return was also not enough.
Social media did not waste any time, responding with its classic combination of side-splitting remarks and ruthless roasts. Users claimed 10 films were far too many, claiming it was time the franchise was killed off.
Even Scream 7 picked up some strays, with folks wondering how that managed to make it past production while this one did not.
Then, when reports came out that Saw XI was about Jigsaw targeting a person for failing to pay their health insurance, users immediately saw (no pun intended) why it got canceled.
Social media reacts to Saw XI cancellation
Several of the users thought it was time to allow the franchise to come to an end, explaining there's only so much you can do with the same idea. Some simply admitted they never thought it would make it this long, surprised that it even survived through so many films.
One user @Sarx88 straight up stated:
"Isn't 10 enough? how much can you milk that concept?"
Another user @not_forbid2 added:
"I think it's time to end Saw movie series. I never thought it will come to Saw 11."
Another user @DaImmortalsnail added:
"Just let the Franchise die, we don’t need 40 Saw Movies when the first 3 were the best."
A user @Cliffinkent mentioned:
"I lost track of these after the 4th or 5th? I need to go back and re watch"
One more user @Dboybruh said:
"The series was getting stale anyways, same ol recycled story. It was time to end it and Move on."
Some of the users noted that Saw XI shared the same idea as Saw VI, which also dealt with health insurance and Jigsaw's warped sense of justice.
One user @AJ_Vertigo speculated:
"Isn't that just the plot of Saw 6?"
A user @pizza_xavier added:
"Ohhh so that’s why it’s cancelled."
A user @zombiicupcake mockingly said:
"I think this is a good time for everybody to revisit Saw VI... no particular reason :)"
Then, naturally, Scream 7 picked up some strays, with users wondering how that film received the green light when Saw XI did not.
A user @dekanogamis posted:
"they cancel saw 11 but not scream 7....."
One user @The_GM_is_God hilariously suggested:
"Saw 11 might have been cancelled so I blocked Scream"
In the midst of all the roasts and jokes about Saw XI, one user was actually disappointed with the general trend of favorite projects being canceled. They complained that studios continue to cancel movies people want, but pick up on unwanted sequels and reboots.
A user @virtualpopul1 posted a hilarious GIF for their overall reaction to everything going on right now.
"SAW 11 canceled, white lotus inc*st scenes on the TL, James Gunn, Wonder Woman game canceled, Tiana series canceled..."

Throwback to Saw franchise after Saw XI’s demise
For beginners, the Saw franchise began way back in 2004 through James Wan. A low-budgeted psychological thriller quickly evolved into an out-and-out horror spectacle based on intricate death traps and numerous twists to the story,
The tenth sequel, Saw X (2023), itself ended up as an unexpected triumph by reclaiming audience and critical love.
One sensed that Jigsaw had one more trick remaining in his bag of tricks.
But even with the renewed hype, the journey to Saw XI became a behind-the-scenes horror movie in itself.
With Saw XI six feet deep in the ground, the big question now is: is it the end of the Saw franchise? Well, not necessarily.
Industry insiders say that if Lionsgate wants to keep the Saw franchise alive, it will probably be a reboot, not a sequel in the form of Saw XI.
Saw XI surely should have seen its sudden startling stall, but studio struggles swiftly sank the sinister sequel’s survival. (Don’t hate us for this one, thanks).
