Ryan Coogler's Sinners is recieving praise from the critics. Having recieved a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it has created a lot of buzz before its release. So, what was Ryan's inspiration behind the horror flick.

You might think Supernatural, Vampire's Diaries, or Dracula might be the inspiration behind his masterpiece, but you are far from the actual answer. Out of all the horror movies out there, Coogler was inspired by the animated classic Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Yes, you heard that right. One day Ryan was chillin in his home with a bowl full of popcorn, enjoying a movie about whiskers and sword fights, and BAM! Suddenly he gets an idea to make a period supernatural horror movie, Sinners. Its like Quentin Tarantino saw Bambi and decided to make Kill Bill.

Coogler incorporated many elements of Antonio Banderas' animated classic. It has swordfights, a dance-off between good and evil, and even manages to capture the same chaotic but stylish energy of Puss.

Fan reaction to Sinners being inspired by Puss in Boots

Ryan Coogler fans were surprised to hear the news, and Puss in Boots fans were shocked to hear it. Neither of them took it positively and decided to enter the conversation and leave their two cents on the matter.

But since its 2025, humor has become the only language that best conveys the messages. And thats the language fans chose. Their side-splitting reactions will leave you catching your breathe.

User @chicmetax sounds like he does not believe in things easily,

"I can't agree less"

User @thief_pen found another way of saying 'Ryan Coogler was inspired by Puss in Boots,

"Game recognize Game"

User @ImTobirama says it in a way that takes away all the seriousness,

"Crazy it was inspired from a kids movie but worked out so well"

User @SulacoWerewolf dumbed it down even more with this analogy,

"I based sinners off the s*** wolf from puss n boots"

Sinners is about two brothers who return to their hometown only to be welcomed by a mysteriously evil host who will make Dracula stay in his coffin even in the night.

But if you want to relate it to the animated classic, then it's like Puss in Boots but in a Hotel Transylvania universe. And instead of the nice and caring Drake, Puss meets the actual blood sucking demon, Dracula.
