Ryan Coogler's supernatural thriller Sinners is set to release in theatres on April 18, 2025. The movie has been receiving rave reviews from the critics even before its release and added another feather in its cap recently when it clocked near-perfect scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Yes, you read that right: 99%. If you are one of the people who still believe in Rotten Tomatoes scores, you'd know how impressive a feat that is.

Sinners' Rotten Tomatoes scores sends internet into a frenzy

Rotten Tomatoes doesn't exactly have an image of a generous giver; in fact, the critics over there are a notoriously hard bunch to please. So when news broke out that Sinners was sitting a measly one percent off of a perfect score, netizens lost their collective minds trying to decode the absurdity of this superhuman feat.

Fans reacted with amazement on social media as if they had just seen the invention of sliced bread. What followed was an outpouring of over-the-top reactions as fans poked fun at the oddity of the situation:

"Looks like Jason Whitlock finally submitted his review", joked one fan (via X / @X_whatsthisnow)
"Coogler really went from Wakanda Forever to Immortality Forever… bruh cooked up a vampire classic and did it on IMAX film?? Nah this might be cinema for real" quipped another (via X / @yipfella)

While the majority of the fans seem hyped for the movie, some fans took it upon themselves to poke fun at Rotten Tomatoes' credibility, accusing it of playing favorites:

"A 99% on Rotten Tomatoes in 2025 either means it’s a masterpiece or everyone’s too scared to speak..", joked one fan (via X / @Its_Jenna_xoxo)
"I got tricked by Nosferatu … not going to fall for another vampire movie being the best film of the year!", another fan chimed in (via X / @KobesyTrades)

Of course, then there's the 1% drama. The lone ranger who delivered the bad rating became Public Enemy No 1 as fans trolled the guy mercilessly. The movie had been steadily building up momentum for the past several months with its impenetrable record amongst critics until one guy decided to spoil it all...

If 99% caused such a commotion on X, imagine what storms a perfect record would've cooked up! The fans kicked into high gear on the 1% community as they demanded divine retribution for the one critic:

"That 1% is just some bitter Hater", mocked one fan (via X / @Konstantinm267)

Another fan hilariously quipped through a GIF that the critic might have to go into hiding for a bit:

After months of anticipation and hype building, Sinners now looks set to take the box office by storm. The Michael B. Jordan-starrer has been making noises for all the right reasons- the trailer looks sick, the cast is amazing, and the bossing of Rotten Tomatoes is just the latest in a slew of masterstrokes being played by Ryan Coogler.

Let's just hope the 1% critic reads the room for once and doesn't bring a wooden stake to the party next time!
